Our photographer charges us $100 per hour session. This includes a disc of all of the proofs and 2 high quality 5x7 prints. Her business has boomed since we started with her in the beginning so her rates have gone up to $200 per hour, but since we are friends and booked when she was new, she gives us a deal. We love her work.
I just had Lila's Christmas pictures taken (see siggy below). I paid $50 for a half hour session with full rights to all the pictures (about 100 of them). She was at my door with a cd about 2 hours after the session (she's my neighbor) and they're available online as well. She edited a few of them, but many of the raw pictures are good too! I thought it was a great deal!

I just paid $90 for our session tonight. Her normal rate is $120, but she is running a holiday session. That includes the disc with the rights to print them whenever/however we please.

Ok, so $75 for an hour with 10 edited pics of my choosing on a disc for me to do whatever with is good?
I like her work (she's in my moms group) so I just wanted to make sure the price was ok. I've never really gotten any family pics taken before.
That sounds like a good deal. No really pro pics, but we go to Portrait Innovations and spend about $100 for session, about 15 sheets of photos and a CD, and that's for studio quality pics. If she takes good photos, I'd do it.
I would do it. Even if you went somewhere else and paid a little more and got 100 images on a disk..it's not like you would actually make prints of all of them.
My photographer has a $100 sitting fee which includes like 3 hours of shooting time wherever. That doesn't include pics though. Her packages start at like $500. I usually split a package with my mom and I get a 16x20 a few 5x7's, an 8x10, and like 20 4x6s. We did them like 3 times his first year but now it's only going to be at birthdays.
Wow. Some of you are getting awesome deals. We don't pay a sitting fee because our photog is a friend, but we do pay for the rights to the pictures. The digital images cost about $600 per session. We've paid a crap ton of money for pictures this year. We did maternity, newborn, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year photos. Luckily my mom likes to help with this sort of thing. The photographer threw in birth and birthday pictures for free (did the photography and gave us all the images for no charge).

Just had family pics taken with a photographer who is building her portfolio, so I paid $50 for an hour session that included a disc with at least 20 edited shots and full printing rights, watermarked pics for FB, etc.
I paid $600 for Jackson's birthday party which includes a disk of all of the high res images that I can print on my own, plus a 1 hour session either in her studio or outside (we chose outside) for his 1 year pictures and this included 2 5x7 (and she threw in a few extras).

I asked this ? a while back and learned that photographers in my area charge WAY more than in other places (no idea why). For DD's first year, we went to Penney's and paid no sitting fees (b/c we got the 2-yr membership for $20) and then $3.99 per sheet for the prints. This is the best deal I found, if you like studio pics.
The pics always came out nice, but DD was never smiling. Now we use an on site photographer who does mini sessions through my mom's group. He charges $50 for a 20 minute session, and it includes about 30 pics on disc. These pics are way better for us b/c DD smiles in them.
Re: How much do you guys pay for pro pics?
200 for 1-2 hours of shooting and we get a disk of high res photos and print ourself.
That's a great price!

Our target doesn't have a portrait studio =(
That doesn't sound too bad. Do you get to pic which pictures go on the disk?
Yes, and they are edited

I'd gladly pay more for them, though. Love them!
You also get what you pay for, though
