First sign of very light brown spotting this morning

I am a little over 6 weeks and I got my first sign of very light brown spotting.  It only happens when I wipe.  I read sites that say that it is completely normal and could be old blood. They also say that as long as it's not red and accompanied by cramping (which I don't have), that is it probably fine.  Of course my doctor's office is closed until Monday.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I am very nervous and started crying this morning.  This is my very first sign of this and I would love to hear your thoughts.  Thanks!

  • I'm sorry, hugs for you. I haven't had any, but I have heard that it can happen and be normal. I know its easier said than done, but try to relax as much as possible. Stress won't help anything. I know its hard though! I usually do deep breathing with positive imagery, it helps me...T/P for you this weekend!

  • I experienced this myself early on (4 weeks) but I have seen others that had brown spotting later and the baby is fine.  I would just keep an eye on it for now.  If it does turn bright red, def. see your doctor.

  • I experienced this with my son several times. It is scary, but brown is old blood. It's just your baby nestling is and moving the blood from the walls out of it's way.

  • I experienced this with my son and it was super scary I had just lost our first pregnancy the year prior so I was spazzing. Does your doctor have an on call number? You can always page him/her to ease your mind. As long as it isn't with cramping and it doesn't turn bright red and clotty you should be fine!!

This!  As long as its brown, no problem.  Call doc if it turns red or you cramp.

  • I had this at about 5 ish weeks with DD it was more light pinkish but just when wiping happened at night and then never again and the preg was totally normal and now I have a healthy almost 1 year old.  Dont worry just yet the brown is old blood.

  • Drink lots of water and keep your feet up today. If the blood increases or you start cramping, call your Dr's emergency number.

    Good luck!

  • I too have heard that brown spotting is normal, but I imagine it is still very unnerving to see it.  Good luck.

  • I had light brown spotting with my son ALOT in the 1st trimester. Everything turned out to be fine. As long as it is not bright red and with cramping you are most likely fine. If you are nervous just call the OB - that is what they are there for. ((HUGS))

  • Yes, with DD I had brown spotting and everything turned out great!! Maybe TMI but if you have recently had... ummm.... sexy time with DH that can be the cause too (that's what happened with me) and my doctor said no more sexy time for awhile... or it could just be implantation bleeding. Most likely you're fine if it's just a bit and you're not crampy!
  • I have! This happened to me at 4am on Thurs. It actually started out as a dark red and then turned to dk brown. I called my dr and they had me come in for an ultrasound. Everything was fine and I got to see the baby's heartbeat! They couldn't find a reason for the bleeding, just said it maybe implantation or old blood. If it really concerns you, then just call the on call doctor. You can also go to the ER.
