Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What Not to Wear, baby edition

What's the one thing that bugs you the most about how other people dress their babies?

I really dislike seeing babies out in just a onesie. Especially babies over the age of 6 months. I was at the store yesterday (the high was 80 here) and I saw two toddlers who had on just a onesie with shoes and socks. I just think it looks awful! At least through a pair of shorts or cotton pants on the kid people!

  • babylegs. I think they look stupid.

eta: I also hate when people put headbands with giant flowers on them, on their little girls head. i think it looks tacky and takes away from the beauty of LO.

I second the baby legs..I bought some for DD and they just don't look right and they don't look comfortable either!

  • Big puffy jackets, or fur coats. The poor kids can barely move, and when i see it here in San Diego I roll my eyes.
    Effing crazy people.
  • Anything that says princess or diva or anything of the sort. Blech.

  • Not quite the time of year but... bikini type swimwear on little babies/ toddlers. I know there are probably those out there that think it's cute but I am not one of them.

Oh totally this too, that bikini top isn't helping cover anything. They look very silly, and why not maximize the sun shielding potential and put them in a one piece.

  • I second the giant headbands/flowers my DD was BALD and we didn't pierce her ears until 9 months so I just always had her in pink or purple...also my DH's rule was no princess.

I totally agree. I honestly don't really care if other people do this, but if we have a girl its the one thing I can say we'll never do. I like the ones with the little shirt, Ryan had one too!

I used to think this until I had my DD in a one piece this summer.  Changing diapers in a wet suit was a nightmare!  I switched her to a 2 piece immediately, not a revealing one though, a tankini type.

I never even thought of that! It's too bad they don't make bathing suits with snaps in the crotch like onesies.

They do.. DS has 2 wet suits that have snaps in the crotch. One from Old Navy and one from Walmart :)

  • I have to go with shoes.  Maybe because, as babies I can't get them to stay on dd or ds feet. Others can't either, I know because I often see one baby shoe on the ground in public. Now, there are really cute shoes out there, but I can spend the money in better ways.  I don't buy shoes until they need them.

  • Tankinis seem more efficient, the little triangle tops though, not so much.

    Effing crazy people.
  • Baby clothes with sexualized messages. "I'm a boob man" or "Lock up your daughters" or "hung like a one year old". I know a lot of people think the "lock up your daughters" one is cute; I've seen it in a bunch of siggy pictures. I'm just a bit conservative, I guess.

Okay, I totally get the "hung like a one year old"...That's blatantly sexual and just wrong. But how is "lock up your daughters" sexual? I don't see it as much different than "future man of your dreams" or something like that...

Eh, to each her own, I guess, right? DS had a Boob Man hat when he was a newborn (a gift -- we didn't buy it ourselves and he only wore it once for a picture....though I did think it was pretty funny) and he has a Lock Up Your Daughters tee.

But like I said -- I'll give you the Hung Like a One Year Old. That's right up there with the poor little girl that I saw a couple months ago wearing a "Future Hooters Girl" t-shirt. Blech.

  • Oh, I have lots of these.

    I hate:

Sexualized baby clothes (A la "Boob man" onesies)

Anything written on baby clothes because the sayings printed on baby clothes are universally stupid (with one exception, I love the "I Love the Nightlife" pjs we got from Target. I think they are hilarious)

All that Carters crap that has a big loud pattern and then 50 things appliqued on top of it.  Ugh, it's so hideous.

Baby girls dressed in pink frilly lacy ruffled outfits.  They look ridiculous.  Dress your children with some freaking dignity.

I saw a girl in a gingham tunic with a giant applique on the front, with matching gingham pants that were tapered and then had a ruffle at the ankle.  She was like 12.  I felt so sorry for her.

  • Pierced ears on baby girls. I believe that if they cannot take care of the maintenance and health of their ears, then they are not old enough to have them. I think it's just tacky.
  • Little girls pants/shorts with Juicy or some other nonsense written on the bottom. Tacky.

  • Mullets on baby girls, DD had one at 5 months and I cut it off right away.

Character clothing, I hate TV for babies and really hate TV clothes on babies.

Princess anything on little girls and "boob" anything on little boys.

    Big Sisters 2/10 & 12/11
    Little Brother 3/1/18
  • I hate the punk rock and skull stuff for babies.

  • I agree with the babies in onesies! My SIL does this ALL THE TIME. My nephew and niece are 3 and 1 1/2. They are constantly leaving the house in onesies with no socks or shoes. It grosses me out.

    Also, Crocs. eghgjdfhfkgdjssljdshfeewww

Agreed on sexualized messages, giant flowers about to eat girls heads, skull & crossbone type stuff.

Oh my gosh. I would give anything for a picture of this...your description literally made me laugh out loud!

I hate the headbands on the baby girls too.  But I am guilty of putting baby legs on my LO.
