My mother in law was flat out rude about my putting my 5 week old in the SwaddleMes, calling them a straight jacket and saying that she couldn't breathe. Every chance she could she would unswaddle her or make a comment about how she thought the baby was uncomfortable. It's not like she's swaddled every second of the day or something, just at night and when she gets cranky or overstimulated.
I would chalk this up to my mother in law's usual mean and opinionated nature, but my own parents kind of hinted at the same thing.
Thoughts?

DH hates the swaddle, I try to convince him that I don't swaddle DS during the day and his naps only last for about 30 min. So if he doesn't want to get up about 90 times a night, he'd better leave the kid in the swaddle!!
Oh and last night Houdini over here broke free of it somehow and I blamed DH, it was so funny in hindsight... he says "I never took him out of that straightjacket!" Cracks me up. I think DS is getting ready to want his arms free though, so I'm going to get some more sleep sacks.
My grandmother was convinced I was "choking" DD when we used to swaddle her. I just roll my eyes at her.
Swaddling is grand.
Seriously. Jesus was swaddled.
This is my siggy. Love it.

LOL!
Hahah, yeah I know. I think maybe, like breastfeeding, swaddling has just come back into "style" or something.
It's possible. The 50's-70's are certainly marked as a period of time when things like breastfeeding, baby wearing, soothing were thrown out the window and replaced by formula and preventive behavior to ward off "spoiling". My mom and MIL both formula fed and are big on CIO and such, but they still swaddled.

That's what I was going to say, the the Bible actually references "swaddling cloths" in the Christmas story.
Have they never seen a nativity scene?? lol
Plenty of things that are great for babies had gone by the wayside in the past century (swaddling, babywearing, BFing, etc)... thank god for the internet, now we dont have to rely soley on what our MIL's tell us!
