What do braxton hicks contractions feel like?

I never had any with DS.  I went to 41 weeks then went into labor on my own.  The "real" contractions felt like bad period cramps.  This time around My stomach keeps getting hard, is that what a braxton hicks is?  I'm confused because it doesn't feel anything like my contractions did?  Thanks!

Also if you had them did you deliver early or late?   Thanks!

Re: What do braxton hicks contractions feel like?

  • My stomach would get really hard and would feel like a rock.  It felt more uncomfortable than painful.

No I didn't deliver early at all.  If I felt like I was getting too many BH, I would lay down on my side and drink some water.  Other than that I would just ignore them.

  • I had very mild ones but the were at the top of my tummy and kinda like muscle waves.  That's the best way I can describe them.  I had them around 30 weeks and had DD at exactly 37 weeks but I also was on bedrest for incompetent cervix so I'm not a good example.

  • My stomach would get hard and tight, but mine never hurt. My OB had to tell me that I was having them, otherwise I would have never known. I delivered 4 days before my due date.

For me this was it. My stomach would just feel very tight. The last couple of weeks before I had both my kids I had mild cramping along with the tightness.

I went into labor with both of my kids at exactly 39 weeks.. at 4am. After eating chocolate. Smile

  • mine were in my mid to late 20weeks and it was nothing like regular contractions. My birthing contractions felt like i was pooping a watermelon and had nothing to do with my tummy, just my bum area. My tummy just got super hard and it felt really tight in there. Jacob was ten days early.

  • I could feel my whole stomach area tighten up and like others said it got rock hard. Towards the end (especially when I was exercising) they got kind of painful, but nothing like real contractions. I was induced at 37 wks due to low amniotic fluid.

  • Just my stomach would get really hard, but it never hurt, sometimes I didn't even know I was having them until I would feel it with my hand.
