Follow up to a Bad Halloween...good news

So I posted a few weeks ago that we came back from a Halloween party to find that our house had been broken into and our dog had been rudely kicked and bleeding while trying to defend the house. This left me feeling very vulnerable and scared.

Status update is all good news, and I'm feeling much better: Dog is totally fine. Although she is definitely even more protective and loud when new people come to the house.

DH just oversaw the installation of a new alarm system today, with instant call to local police via radio (rather than phone system, which could potentially be disabled from outside - radio cannot be disabled from outside) and a very loud alarm bell.

A neighbor just told me that police caught people breaking into the house across the street. Since this is mostly a pretty safe neighborhood, chances are high that this is the group of thugs that have just been "making the rounds" in our neighborhood. This makes me feel much better, to think that these guys are locked up. If we can prove it's them, I so want to press charges for animal abuse, too!!

Thanks for everyone who shared good thoughts for my original post.

  • Glad your dog is ok! Hopefully the guys that were caught are the ones who broke into your place and it can be proven

  • Glad everyone is recovering and maybe they found the b@stards.  Maybe you'll even get your snake back?  (fingers crossed).
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • So happy to hear things are better!
  • If nothing else, I'll be you feel more safe now.  Glad everything turned around and that your pooch is ok too!
  • I'm so glad to hear that! Happy to hear that your poor pup is doing well! That one really upset me! Here's hoping they can prove it was them.

Alarm system is a great idea. I think we're getting one for when DH is back overseas. I was so uncomfotable last time. They definitely are worth the peace of mind.

  • I hope that the dog abuse charge can be added to the thugs' list of crimes, too! I don't understand people who can hurt animals. So cruel.

On a positive note, I am so glad that you are getting some peace of mind with your new alarm system.

  • I'm glad things have worked out the way they have, too. I was so worried about your dog-- and I'm glad you live in California where (hopefully) they take animal abuse more seriously than they do in some other areas. Best of luck with everything and hopefully the security system gives you guys some peace of mind.

  • Great news! I hope they don't let these guys off easy!
  • I am happy to hear your pup is doing better, and I really hope the robbers get what they deserve!
  • thanks guys! I'd love to get my snake, back, too.

No word on that one so far, but I have my friends in the pet shops keeping an eye open, so fingers crossed that maybe something will turn up.
