Holy crap! Shooting outside my front door!

So sunday night I came back from being in the bridal party for a wedding in Malibu. We were super tired and was trying to wash DS at 10:30. And then all of a sudden I heard a loud bang and thought that it sounded like a gunshot. Next thing I know I heard tons of yelling outside and someone saying "STAY INSIDE!" And then DH came over and said "it's happening right outside our door" I was like "What? shooting??"

And then we heard more yellings "STAY INSIDE! DON'T COME OUT" "PATRICK, THIS IS THE LONG BEACH POLICE. COME OUT AND WE WILL TREAT YOUR WOUND"

So it sounded like some guy named Patrick was actually shot by the cops and was hiding out in a unit in our condo complex. I have no idea if he's a neighbor or some intruder. And when the cops said stay inside, that's when other neighbors opened the door to see what the yelling was about.

And finally around half an hour ago, I put DS to sleep and DH said the cops came and got a statement. I was hoping to find someone to talk to outside and instead found a cop patrolling. I talked to her briefly to see if it's safe, and she said that "It's totally safe. We're all still here".

Holy crap! I don't know what kind of sh!T is going on with our neighbors! I hope it's not a drug dealer or anything like that. And to think that if we came home an hour later we could be running into the shooting! Scary! I hope I don't see blood stain on our hallway tomorrow. YIKES!

Yikes!! ?I had that happen when I was living with my ex-BF years ago. ?Needless to say we pulled out one of our guns from the safe just in case and moved shortly after.

I found out this morning that it was a domestic dispute. It's a family with 2 young kids. The dad held a gun to the mom's head. They've always looked pretty nice and always said hi to us. Can't believe they fight like that! I don't know if he shot himself or the cops shot him.

That is really scary! We had a lot of problems like that - not shootings, but domestic disputes and parties that just got way out of control - it's very scary. I still get major anxiety when I hear something in the middle of the night that even remotely sounds like someone slamming into the wall or screaming. I can't imagine a shooting. At least the cops stuck around for a while.

It seems like shootings and crazy stuff like that are on the rise. There was one in Aliso Viejo last week. That's just down the street from us.
