We are flying with DD this weekend. This is the 1st time she has her own seat and we're taking her carseat. How do you drag that through the airport? Ugh. Like we are not bringing enough stuff already.
We used the Traveling Toddler car seat strap. I got it on Amazon. It's just a simple T-strap that allows you to hook your carseat onto the front of a standard rolling suitcase. Super easy to use.
We borrowed one of the car seat carriers from my SIL, the type that you can use to pull the seat behind you like luggage. It was awesome and you can even push it with you LO in it. That being said, we used the seat on the plane once and it was a huge mistake. It gave him almost no leg room so he kept kicking the seat in front of him and he couldn't use his tray. He's much easier sitting in the seat so he can color, eat, watch tv on the ipod, etc. Then again, My nephew falls asleep anytime he's in his carseat so she loved having the seat with her. I'd just take your LO's energy level in to account when planning on taking his seat.

we just put our carseat ontop of DS's umbrella stroller and it worked. of course he wasnt sitting in though. and we took in on board. I dont recommend checking it in as they always come back dirty and we even lost our carseat once.. LOL so the airport has some available if that ever happens.
Re: air travel with a toddler
Ditto the car seat bag. We just got a second one for DD2's seat.
And we check their seats so we don't have to wrangle them through the airport, connections, etc.
