So I have weened my DS off of breastmilk and Im wondering how many ounces you put in the bottle at one point. Our ped has rec that he get between 27 and 35 oz so we have been playing with how many ounces he can tolerate in one feeding without spitting the whole thing up. What are you doing?
Re: formula oz in bottle question
DD will take 6 oz bottles. She's only having 24 ounces total a day.
We started weaning around the 4 month mark and started with a 4oz bottle... some feedings it seemed like he wanted more, some less. It was a guessing game at first and even now that we've finished we are adjusting them. Right now he takes the following:
1st feeding: 4oz (sometimes 5 but rarely) - he has solids within an hour of this
2nd feeding: always 4 oz
3rd feeding: 5 oz
4th feeding: 6 oz
5th feeding: 6 oz
he weighs about 17 lbs.
I did the calc originally at 2.5oz/lb and divided by the numb of bottles. The pedi said to shoot for 3 - 6oz bottles & 3 solids meals by 9 mos.
I'm thinkin DD has a really small tummy LOL she can only handle at most 3.5 oz. she eats like every 3 hours. I wish she could get more at one time and go longer between but she just pukes it all up. She wont stop when shes full she will eat til i take the bottle away. but i agree with everyone else start with like 4 or 5 oz and if hes still acting hungry give him a bit more =]
