Eggnog?

Hey ladies, do you know if we are allowed to drink eggnog? I was told by a friend that as long as it is pasteurized, then it is fine. But I forgot to ask my doctor to confirm this when I saw her this week, and I wondered if any of you had this conversation with your doctor?

It is my favorite holiday treat, and I'm hoping I can still enjoy it while pregnant!

Re: Eggnog?

  • I agree if it's pasturized, it's most likely fine. I'll probably skip it this holiday, personally, just to be safe. But I would think if you're comfortable with the idea, go for it.

  • Here's what I found with a Google search.  Basically commercially prepared eggnog is fine, but don't drink homemade eggnog made with raw eggs:

  • Gee thanks a lot now I want to go out and buy eggnog;) I bet food commercials were invented for pregnant women because every time I hear or see some type of food I want it. Even if I'm already eating something else.

  • Thanks!

It usually isn't on the menu, but if you feel ok with drinking a small amount of store-bought eggnog, I highly recommend trying a decaf Starbucks eggnog frappucino. I never order frappucinos otherwise, and you wouldn't think that coffee and eggnog really go together, but they are amazing and I wait all year to have one.

  • My Doctor said no eggnog at all. However one year I made one myself that wasn't made with raw egg. I'm going to ask my other Dr Monday if I can have it if it's pasteurized.

  • Oh eggnog!  Love it!  I never thought about it, but I would think a commercial pasteurized would be ok?  But that's just speculation.  Last year I was looking for a healthier eggnog with not so much fat, and I tried the Silk brand.  You know the soy milk?  And it was way awesome!  So good!

  • I saw it in meijer the other day.  I wanted it sooooo bad.  I looked at the price and said that small thing $4.00.  I actually turned it down due to the price.  I still want it really bad though.....  I just hope the price goes down.

  • Store bought eggnog is pasteurized (unless you're buying it from your local raw dairy), so safe.  Now the fat/sugar/etc. may not be approved by your doctor, but it is certainly safe in its prepared form. Don't drink it home-made unless it's made with pasteurized eggs (yes, there is such a thing) and whiskey free. :)

I have an eggnog latte almost every morning now that it's out. Yum!

  • Great now im craving eggnog. lol

Haha no kidding- me too! My MIL makes some amazing homemade stuff, but I'm pretty sure it does have raw eggs in it  Crying Makes me so sad to think about not having any- I was already looking forward to it!
