Did you register for....

.....all of your breastfeeding essentials, or are you just planning on buying that yourself? I am referring to things like nursing pads, milk storage bags, etc. My sister told me not to because you never really know if you will be able to BF, not to mention those are easy things to pick up yourself. What did you do?

Re: Did you register for....

  • I registered for BF essentials, but I don't expect people to buy them for me. They're on the list so that I don't forget what I need when the time comes to purchase them.

  • I'll start by saying that I don't think there's anything WRONG with registering for breastfeeding things.

That said, I didn't do it.  I didn't feel comfortable with my friends and coworkers buying my nipple cream.  Once my shower was over, I added what I wanted to my registry (there wasn't much.  A pump, some milk bags, and a tube of lanolin.  I already have a box of pads for leaky days and won't really be stocking up on more until I know whether or not I really need them.  Some women don't really leak much.) and am buying it myself.  I had a coupon for $2 off a tube of lansinoh lanolin, which I bought yesterday at walmart.  I bought my pump last night with coupons at BRU.  And I've decided to try both medela and lansinoh milk storage bags - lansinoh are cheaper on amazon and I'll buy them from there at some point.  Medela are cheaper at BRU with a 20% off coupon, so next time I have a random coupon, I'll pick up a box of those.

    Same here

  • I registered for a few things like a nursing cover and some storage bags.  Other things like the breast pads and Lansinoh cream I picked up myself, just a small supply, I felt awkward putting those on the registry and possibly opening them up at my shower and saying "thank you for the nipple cream!" lol.  Even the storage bags I only put a couple small boxes on the registry so if I don't end up BFing for some reason it's no biggie.

  • i registered for it so that way I know what I need to get. I don't expect people to buy them for me.
  • I registered for nursing pads & milk storage bags since those are items that are easy to return but not for a breast pump. I figured I would wait on that once I know if I'll be able to breastfeed or not.

  • I registered for things that aren't directly for my boobs... storage stuff, bottles, yes; pump, nipple cream, soothing gel pads, no.

    Yes, I'm a weirdo. lol.

    This

  • I've only just started registering but my plan is to register for bottles and things like that. Breast pump, pads, cream, etc feels weird to put on a registry. My friend put pads on her registry and I definitely side-eyed that. That said, I want to make the choices before the baby comes but don't want to purchase any of it. I think I might put those things on the registry, print it out, then take them off but give the print out to whoever is going to make the first purchases after LO is born (DH, MIL or my mom).

  • I didn't register for them because I didn't think people would want to buy them, and I didn't want people thinking about my nipples as they shopped for my shower gift :)

  • I will not register for things regarding my boobs leakage, coverage, dry skin etc. I will buy those myself. I would never buy them for a friend, they aren't fun gifts. ;)

This. However, my mom and MIL purchased the pump for me off the registry.

  • I just registered for the pump and some storage bags.  The other stuff is just a bit too personal for me to put on the registry.

  • Like Cdobry I am going to put that stuff on after my shower is over so that I don't forget it but I don't want anyone to get if for me.  My bff put it on hers and did receive all of what she put on and like PP said, I wouldn't want to have to write that thank you card.  Also, I don't see anything necessarily wrong with it either, I'd buy it for someone because I think it's wonderful if you are going to try and BF and I'd want to support that.
  • I registered for all of it.  I wasn't too concerned with the "it being to personal" aspect as everyone invited to the shower is either a family member or close friend.  Plus, it's just part of the game :)  Oh and a good portion of all those fun items got bought, although I'm fairly certain it was my sisters that went in and bought all sorts of the goodies I need for bfing- including my pump.  Gotta love sisters.

  • I registered for all of it - doesn't strike me as a personal thing at all.  Plus all of the women coming to my shower breast fed/ are breast feeding their babies - and actually made recommendations as to what products they like/didn't like.  All the men coming to my party have probably seen my breasts at some point in time - our group of friends do long camping trips together where you either get over changing clothes and being naked in front of people, or you wear the same stinky stuff for a week.

One friend even said to me, "I'm the kind of person who buys the breast pump off the registry" because she feels better spending her money on essentials rather than things that everyone gets you too much of -- like clothes, etc.

Sorry, M.  I thought of nothing but your nipples while I shopped.

  • I did register for some things  (like accessories for the breast pump we purchased, you know, extra storage bags, bottles, ans so forth) but it was mostly to remind me of what I still needed to buy myself.....not that I would refuse any one who wanted to buy one of those items.

  • The only thing I registered for was the pump so we can get our registery completion discount on it at the very least.

  • I did register for them because my friend who went with me told me to! I figure that way I wIill remember the items that she suggested I use. I know I'll probably be buying most of that myself, as I wouldn't really buy that for a gift for someone. I like buying more fun gifts, and I know a lot of my friends do, too! I am hoping that I still get to use my cousin's breast pump, so I'm sure I'll need some things to go with that!

  • i registered for the pump, bottles and bags because those are really for the baby, but I will buy the creams and pads myself because those are more for me.
  • I registered for all of the breastfeeding things. I didn't exactly expect anyone to get them for me, but I wanted the discount. Especially on the pump, which I eneded up getting anyway! The other things I ended up getting as well and figured I'd return them if I wasn't able to bf.

  • I agree with cdobry01. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but feel weird that people are thinking about what will best relieve my sore, chapped and dry nipples or milk leaking out and what they can get me to soak it all up. Exaggeration, I know, but still just my own weird opinion. I may add them right before she is born so I can complete it all, but we will see.

I actually do buy these things for friends that I know will BF, but normally has a hospital gift not for a shower. I find that many new moms appericate someone taking time to think of their needs, not just the baby at that time.

  • I don't have a registry this time, but with DD I registered for everything breast feeding related and got most of the stuff I listed. Also, I'm the person who buys all of her friends breast pads, nipple cream, storage bags, etc. I'll do whatever it takes to help my friends breast feed (yeah, don't ask the lengths I've taken, LOL) if that is what their heart is set on so buying supplies falls into that category.
