Starting Rice Cereal

Hello!  My daughter was born at 34 weeks, she is now 5 months old but 4 months adjusted age.  We were told to start her on rice cereal by her doctor but she keeps pushing it out with her tongue.  To me it sounds like she hasnt lost her tongue reflex yet.  When did anyone else start rice cereal for their preemies?  TIA!

    My DS was also born at 34 weeks. We just started cereal this week. He still has a little of the tongue reflex going on, but the more he gets used to the cereal, the less he pushes it out. He actually swallowed most of what we gave him last night, instead of his shirt eating it. :-)

    Hi! I also delivered at 34 weeks and her pediatrician also delayed starting food. I think she will start next week (she has an appt with the doc) and she will be 6 months. Good luck!
