New mom with baby boy! Please Help!

Hi everyone,I am a first time mom to a three week old boy. Here is my problem. At least 2-3 times a day I have to change his clothes because when he urinates in his diaper it leaks from the side, or back. This soaks his clothes and blanket. I have tried aiming his (private) down, up and every which way to prevent this. Also have tried huggies and pampers. Newborn size and size 1. His legs are pretty skinny, he was 3 weeks early. Any suggestions those of you with boys??

  • Go up a size in diapers and your problem should be solved.

  • Try Luvs! i know a lot of people with boys like luvs.. also if his legs are really really skinny, try putting a preemie dipe on him and seeing if that helps.... but sometimes whent hey are leaking out the sides of them the diaper is too small
  • I would think size 1 would be huge on him!! I would stick with NB. How much does he weigh? Maybe try some different kinds. Target diapers are really good.
  • Poor mamma! I had the same problem!! (was even worse when DH changed him lol) The best diapers I found were the newborn pamper swadlers, huggies SUCKED!
  • I had this problem with DS too- DH kept saying I put the diaper on wrong but the reality is until they grow into their diapers, there really isn't anything you can do.  Sorry- but it is true, they are just so little!
  • Definitely sounds like a diaper fit issue.  GL!

Pampers Swaddlers in sz 1 worked for us.

  • Also, definitely make sure the penis is down and centered as much as possible. This was our dilemma until our pedi showed us the correct position. We've had great luck with Luvs and Target diapers. Depending on his size, he may need preemie or just NB diapers, and the 1s could be too big. Hope you find something that works soon!

  • we use pampers sensitive swaddlers...make sure the ruffles are "out"...that helped us A LOT with leaks (pee and poop!).

  • We use the Pamepers sensitive swaddlers as well. They are the only ones that work with our little boy.

  • are you applying vaseline to his bum? our dr told us to in order to protect his skin and we found that it also inhibited the diaper from absorbing correctly, kind of like a protective layer for the diaper also :)
  • BRU has these inserts to put in diapers when they fit too big, you can give that a try.  If he's too tiny you can also try preemie size ones.

This. Definitely point down and pull out the ruffles. We use Huggies snugglers and Pampers and when he started peeing out we moved him to 1s.?
