Two Under 2

How do you do mommy and me classes with 2?

I was just curious how you worked these type of things out when you have 2 under 2.  My daughter currently goes to Little Gym and Kindermusik and I would love her to continue going.  or is that unrealistic?

  • We still do both of those things.

During Little Gym, DD sits in her car seat in the stroller off to the side.  When she was a newborn, she would sleep the whole time, and I just had to make sure that she was fed just prior to going.  Now that she is older, I hope that she falls asleep in the car and I bring her in in the snap and go and she will sleep for a while.  If she doesn't she sits in the snap and go and watches.  DS and I go over to check on her every so often.  If she gets unhappy sitting there, I bring the baby bjorn and she comes with us...and I rely on the instructor to help DS do the bigger skills for the rest of class.  In our class, there are usually one or two other babies sitting off to the side with her.

During music class, I bring the bumbo seat with me so DD can sit on her own for part of class and I can hold DS if he wants to be held.  When he is off on his own, I take DD out and sit with her.  Sometimes, they both sit on my lap.  When she was an newborn, she usually just slept in the baby bjorn or car seat.

Just an fyi - if you have your #2 in the car seat for a while, you might want to get a noggin nest if you don't already have one:

My DD was getting a flat head from sleeping in her car seat/stroller while at DS's classes, playground, etc, so we bought one and noticed a huge difference.   Good luck!

  • I wore the baby.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I looked into the Little Gym after having DS2, and they specifically said that I couldn't bring the younger sibling to the class for the older one. Needless to say, we never signed up. I guess by the other responses though, that can vary by location.

  • we do gymboree. I just wore her in the beginning, or now I hold her on my hip. I just make sure she is fed and changed. Now she really enjoys watching the kids!

  • I never did any gym type places - my girls weren't into it.

I do Kindermusik and have been since DD#1 was 9 months old. My friend owns the music place and teaches the class and always allowed me to bring a second child along........

  • My 2 year old does gymboree and music class. I leave the baby with a sitter.
  • The only way I can do it is if its through the park district and I can use the child care in their facilities. I wouldnt want to bring him & just leave him in the car seat while we take the class b/c he is definitely not one of  those kids who is cool just hanging out in there.

  • We do music class. I actually didn't start until baby #2 was born. DD2 stays in her car seat watching. It's really no big deal at all.
  • I have no idea how I am going to manage it.  Our Gymboree is very strict on only having infants in a wearable carrier.  I would really like to take the baby to infant classes like I did with Hallie but then I don't know what to do with her.  I don't have anyone that can babysit and probably could not afford classes and a babysitter anyway.
  • Our music class is really open to siblings- in fact if they're under 12 mo they're free. When DD2 was really little, I just let her sleep in the infant seat. Now she just sits and plays w.us. I don't know how I could do a gymboree type class though.
