SIDS safe age

in Babies: 0 - 3 Months

At what age do you not need to worry about SIDS as much? I am sure I read this in one of my books but can't remember. I don't worry as much about DD sleeping and have been sleeping a little more deep as opposed to before waking to any little sound or lack of. Just wondered when the major worry time frame was.

    dh was telling me yesterday that having a fan on IN the room reduces the sids risk by 60%.  the fan doesn't even need to be pointed on the baby.  i think he said he read it on the drudge report or cnn

    I think it's actually 72%. 

    I don't know when the safe age is... 3 months is like the peak, I think, but I don't know when the risk goes away.

    the majority of SIDS deaths are 2-4 months. Almost all are under 6 months.

    There was a report in newsweek, they stated the peak ages for it was 2-4mnths, but there didn't seem to be a "safe" age, I am thinking if you had to say it would be around 6mnths. You should read the article, it was very informative- we made some changes around our house based on the new info.

    i was reading in Touchpoints today that the peak is actually 2-4 months.  i know as far as daycare/preschool standards, they have to put baby on their backs until they are a year old.  if a doctor sends a note saying tummy sleeping is ok, then they can sleep on their tummies at 6 months.... take from that what you will! HTH!

    Sudden infant death syndrome rarely occurs before age 2 weeks or after age 6 months.  according to the Mayo Clinic.
