My OB told me that I was safe to do cardio as long as I felt up to it and didn't over do it but to not do ab exercises or lift any weights over 10 lbs. Just to give a background, prior to finding out I was pregnant I ran a half marathon and completed P90X and have continued to do moderate weights over the past several months. I don't want to lose all of my muscle tone and strength so does anyone have any good workout ideas/videos they can suggest? Also, I am absolutely starving - and out of ideas for foods that are healthy yet appealing any suggestions?
Re: need exercise and snack ideas
trail mix and fruits, lately granny smith apples -yum! and i snack on quaker cinnamon oat squares cereal...carbs with not too much sugar, a good crunch and 5g of fiber. soy milk is pretty satisfying too.
the new sea salt dark chocolate (like 60%) from lindt is good for that unknown craving i get- just looking around and finding nothing appealing.
netflix has a variety of workouts....
I know why we can't do some ab workouts, but why not a standing ab or some cardio that focuses on the core. That should help keep the muscle tone there. I thoroughly enjoy zumba, but some dr's don't want people to do it. I'm seriously hoping that my dr will allow me to continue.
I also try to keep a lot of fresh fruits and go-gurt in the freezer, as well as easily microwaved stuff like lean cuisine meals or soup. That way if I feel really hungry, its not too much that it will kill the diet.
Veggies & hummus make a great snack, as do fresh fruit (apples, oranges and pears are my current faves), smoothies (I like 2 make them w/ frozen strawberries, frozen mangoes, some OJ, a fresh banana, and some ground flax for Omega-3s, protein, and fiber), Greens Plus Energy Bars (the chocolate flavor is very tasty, usually sold @ most health-food stores), cottage cheese (If you like it, it's got lots of protein), string cheese, yogurt, also any kind of nuts or trail mix that you like.
This is an awesome workout dvd that always gets my heart pumping. It's like a mix of cardio and pilates, plus they have standing ab work for during pregnancy and a postpartum ab work section:
