missing the "old me"- 2nd time moms please come in (pls dont flame!!)

I know it is vain and superficial, but I have been really mourning the loss of my old body lately. I used to be 110lbs, and now I am 150lbs. It is a lot to get used to. I know that there are a lot of other things to be worrying about, but this really just keeps creeping into my mind lately...is it possible to get your pre-pregnancy body back? How much diet and exercise did it take for those of you who feel like their bodies returned to normal after?

  • *hugs*

I could be completely honest, but I think I would scare a lot of the 1st timers.

All I can say is that some people are very lucky and most others will never see the body they used to have.

Ditto.  You just need to remember that there's a good reason your body is different now.  Hopefully you can find some comfort in that.
  • agree with pp, it's worth the extra weight gain.  however it's hard to keep that in mind after LO is born and you have all the extra hormones.  i hated how i looked and felt after DD was born, but i didn't do anything for the first 6 months because i was enjoying my baby.  but this time i plan on trying to lose the weight sooner because i know i'll be a much happier mommy and wife.  plus i'm looking forward to using my jenny mccarthy your shape again.  i had to stop using it while pregnant because i couldn't keep up with her Big Smile  like mrsyam said some ladies are lucky and bounce right back where as others it takes a little longer.  at least we're all in the same boat

  • I lost all of my baby weight within 4 months. I didn't diet or get much exercise then.  I lost 20 lbs. just leaving the hospital.  I attribute my weight loss to breastfeeding and the walks I took with dd.  However, losing the food weight I gained before the pregnancy has been another story!!
  • I feel your pain!  I was 112 and at my last dr's appt I was 142 :o(  I haven't eaten for two at all and I never drink sodas or anything like that.  I completely understand how you feel.  When I complain to someone (not everyone...just my mom or close friends) about my body they all just say "it's worth it."  And, I do know that it will be worth it...but, I can't help but wonder what life will be like after baby with my new body.  I'm not gonna lie....I'm kinda vain.  I like to be sexy for my DH.  I just keep wondering how our sex life will be affected if I'm not feeling so sexy anymore.  But, at the end of the day you have to remind yourself that we aren't the first vain women to become pregnant and they are happy and fulfilled.  So, we will get through this :o)  But, big hugs to you because I understand!
  • I lost all the baby weight by my 6 week pp appt but unfortuately there are parts of me that will never be the same again!  Some people are lucky ...I was not one of them!

  • I feel the same way :( I feel extremely stupid at times, but gaining 30 pounds has taken a toll on me emotionally. I was underweight to begin with, so my doctor said I need to gain more but I honestly don't know how much more I can take! I miss being skinny :(
  • I gained 40lbs with DS and lost all but 10 in the first couple months, but I wasn't doing any exercise or diet because I was lazy and BFing. The last 10 came off this spring when I finally got outside and did lots of stroller rides and chasing DS. But even getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight did not get my pre-pregnancy body back. I do mourn it. Like PP said I like to feel sexy for DH and myself. I try to tell myself my stretchmarks and muffin tops are worth it but it's hard, so I wore spanx a lot Wink I don't suppose I'll ever have a six pack again, but I do love my babies and it looks like DH won't ever have a six pack again either (sympathy weight :) hehe

  • You poor thing, yes it is possible to get your old body back I mean granted your hips might be bigger but that is a good thing...

It took me 3 months to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight and it took me 6 moths to be toned back up...

  • Some women's bodies will never be the same, hips might be a little different, etc..

I always gain a ton of weight with each pregnancy.  I am resolved to it. I gained 75 with my 1st, 91 with my second and I am up almost 50 already with this one.  With each one I have lost all the weight I gained.  Thankfully my stomach has always gone back down, but my hips are different.  I can't wear (even tho I weigh the same weight) the same size I did pre-pregnancy. Its different but its not bad. :) I lost probably about 35-40 within the first few weeks and the rest takes a little work, but it can be done and it will.

Take comfort in the fact that you were the one who carried your beautiful baby for 9 months and you are the one who will always be his/her mommy.  Its a wonderful gift.

  • The weight-yes. The body-no in most cases. You will lose the weight, but you most likely won't look the same as you did pre-baby. I didnt gain a lot of weight and lost it really quickly after delivery, but didnt look the same at all. I was even a size larger than pre-pregnancy. Honestly, it's tough to deal with, but you will get used to it. Plus the baby definitely makes it worth the sacrifice.

  • I was lucky.  Had my first at 27.  I went from 118lbs to 191lbs.  I swelled everywhere too - all over.  Within 8mos I was back to 120lbs.  I ate how I wanted & only went to the gym for a month (wasn't for me).  Now I did have a high metabolism.  I am 32 now on my second pregnancy.  I was 118lbs when I got pregnant & up 38lbs this time - all belly.  I know my metabolism isn't as great as it was 5yrs ago so we shall see but there is still hope.

     You are not vain at all for worrying.  It is only natural {{HUGS}}

  • It is definitely possible to get your old body back.  After I had DD, I lost all of the pregnancy weight plus an additional 13 lbs.  I did not diet (never have), and I did minimal exercise.  I honestly think my body was better after the baby because it gave me a little more junk in my trunk and bigger boobs.  I didn't have any stress marks, other than on my hips, so with the right bikini bottoms, I could still wear a 2-piece comfortably.  Granted, I don't know what is going to happen after this one (lol), but I was good after baby #1.
