NIFR...holiday cards

...do you send holiday cards?

Do you send photo cards?

Do you like receiving photo cards?

I always send cards to friends and family for the holidays - usually some sort of happy holidays or seasons greetings since not all of our friends are Christian or celebrate X-mas.

Last year we used a wedding photo, the year before that an egagement photo. Other years have been nonphoto cards.

This year my wedding photog who I love is doing mini sessions for holiday cards. It's $125 for 30-45 minute session, 10-12 prints and 25 cards (we send about 60 and could order more for a pretty low price). I really want to do it. DH is so opposed to it. He doesn't like having pictures taken....I get that, but I it seems like a great deal - it's up in Napa so we'd be in wine country for the day (maybe even stay the night).

Any thoughts on how to convince him? Is it lame to send photo cards when it's not your wedding year or you don't have babies? or a new house, or a pet or something? When it's just been a plain old, blah, I'm not pregnant yet year?

Re: NIFR...holiday cards

  • I am a holiday sap and love photo cards and even the corny Christmas letters. I don't live near family, so I do enjoy the photo cards.

Last year, we also used a wedding photo.  I promised DH no more photos - kept thinking we would have a baby by then to put on a card.

I am going to do a recipe card - for pralines with a pic of the pralines.

  • We only sent photo cards the year we got married ('06), I don't think DH would go for sending photos now either.  Other than that we always send non-denom "peace" holiday cards as we have folks from just about every religious persuasion on our holiday card list.  I ended up not sending anything last year because after writing the letter, it was just too depressing.  And now yet another year has come and gone and we won't be able to announce by the end of the year even if we get pg this cycle. :(

You could do the photo session and just have them for yourselves...

I know! I enjoy having nice photos of us for now, until we have babies and kids to hang on our walls, put on our mantles. Etc. I think it's more he doesn't want to have the pictures taken. He told me he's not a model and doesn't like to pose - but we're friendly with our photog and it would quick and fun, not super posed.

  • ...do you send holiday cards?  Yes, we do

Do you send photo cards?  No...waiting for a baby to do that

Do you like receiving photo cards?  I do, I don't know about Dh

Any thoughts on how to convince him?  I wish I had a great answer for you, but I'm not really too sure.  Instead of having new pictures taken, what about using a nice picture of the two of you from some time over the past year?

Is it lame to send photo cards when it's not your wedding year or you don't have babies? or a new house, or a pet or something?  I don't think so.  It's nice to receive pictures of people or whatever.  I am that type of person who likes to display pictures of everyone in my life.  So receiving a picture of the couple/family/pets...makes it to my refrigerator or gets framed for everyone to see.

  • Do you send holiday cards? Yes

Do you send photo cards?  Always.  One year we didn't and got notes and emails from our relatives (aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, etc) saying how they missed the photo cards and hoped we would do them again because they really enjoy them.  Needless to say we now always send photo cards.

Do you like receiving photo cards?  Yes, I prefer photo cards.  I also like xmas letters.

As for what pics go on the cards we try to find a pic of us from throughout the year.  If not we take a pic in front of the tree.  One year our xmas card was us riding elephants in Bali.  One year from our vacation at the beach.  We try to make it memorable.

We always get our photo cards from costco, you can't beat 50 cards for $15 and 25 additional cards for $5.

  • ...do you send holiday cards?  Yes.

Do you send photo cards?  Yes, we have been.

Do you like receiving photo cards? Definitely!

After we used our wedding photo the first year, the next year it felt weird to do a photo card of just me and DH, BUT....we decided to start being unique with our cards.

Last year, DH and I wore our favorite sports teams shirts and our caption was, "Merry Christmas from our Home Team to yours."

This year, DH and I stuck our tongues on a metal pole (yes, I washed it first!) and our caption will be, "We double dog-dare you to have a Merry Christmas."
