Baby Feeding "Schedule"

I know that every baby is different ... so humor me.  We are doing baby food with C now, trying to do it once a day (mostly at dinner).

When did you start feeding multiple times a day?  Did you base it on an age or just look for certain clues (what do I look for??)

I'm not looking forward to the addition of another meal because it means we have to start getting him up earlier or I have to start packing food for the sitter.

Thanks!

Re: Baby Feeding "Schedule"

  • We started solid right at 6 months and did once a day (around lunchtime for us) until 7 months when we started twice a day (lunch and dinner) and next either at 8 months or 9 months will add a third meal to the day.

  • We did dinner first, then I added lunch a few months later.  I did lunch because it didn't require me getting up earlier.  ;)

Once I felt like we were through "trying" foods and he was really eating a good amount at dinner, I added lunch.  At first it was just yogurt because hey, that's easy to pack!

I am not at all a "by the book" or "schedule" follower so I just did what felt right.   We still don't always do breakfast at home, if he nurses for a long time in the morning then I just give him Cheerios when we get to school.

My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!

  • Breakfast was the last one I added and he always eats breakfast at the sitter's house.  I did just dinner for at least a month or two and then added lunch.  Breakfast followed shortly after that.  I think I added an additional meal when T started to seem interested in the food and not just the fun of mealtime.
