Re: sewers come in fake fur?
I recently made DD a stuffed animal (also a dog!) out of Cuddle (ie, Minky). I bought it from a local retail store with an online store. I believe I bought the ?Cuddle 3.?
A couple of tips:
-- Fur fabric has a nap, so take that into consideration when cutting your pieces. Check that your layout is correct before buying yardage, since you?ll need more b/c of the nap.
-- There will be major fuzz when cutting out the pieces. To avoid having it get into your machine, take the time to gently pull the fuzz off the cut edges before sewing.
-- I found that the edges do not fray. I also had a lot of luck removing stitches without leaving signs on the fabric. Hooray!
-- Getting comfortable sewing on the fabric took a little while. In the sections with many layers (ie, where the ears connect with the head), I stitched one layer at a time, since the bulk and slipping layers was giving me trouble.
-- Use a brand new needle!!! Any little imperfection on the needle will snag on the fabric and make sewing hell. I used a universal needle, but don?t think the type really matters (except for a knit needle, which I would avoid).
GL! Once I felt comfortable with the fabric, it actually worked really well. I was very happy with it.
