I'm not on FB because I think it is a waste of time and (generally) inappropriate if you're over the age of 20. I think it's for kids and should stay that way. I know of too many adults (some of my relatives included) who spend way too much time on there (and some kind of farm thing), to the detriment of their families/jobs/real lives.
I'm not trying to sound preachy, and I know some people use FB for perfectly legitimate purposes -- keeping family updated on their kids, etc. -- and do not spend all day on it. So I am making generalizations here. And I know I spend too much time on TB sometimes, but at least I'm learning stuff.
So I just avoid FB and keep hoping it will go away. (I sound really old, don't I?)
Re: My UO (very UO, I think)
Eh, people waste time on plenty of things, not just FB. TV, video games, chat rooms, The Bump
FB is just one of many time sucks available for people who want to waste time.
FTR, I'm not a big FB user. I just dont think it's any different than the bump.
I'm laughing at TB being educational.
I'll argue the converse. I don't think it's appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. Kids really don't need it - they see each other at school every day.
I have a FB account, but only so I can randomly stalk ex-classmates.

I totally agree. I survived high school without facebook even being invented. Now I use it to stalk people that I don't talk to IRL
I think sites like FB, when used in moderation and appropriately, are a fine way to stay connected and socialize. I like being able to chat w/ my distant relatives and post pictures of Cam for the family to see.
MY UO is that I find all of the apps. like Farmville completely stupid and pointless. It annoys the crap out of me when people have constant updates from these applications. I am constantly blocking them from my news feed b/c I really don't care if you have spent your day raising a barn or rescuing a lost calf. One of the main reasons I fired my first DCP was that I discovered that she was playing Farmville and other apps ALL day and then had the nerve to tell me that my child had been "whiny and difficult".
