  We did the same thing last year. Thankfully, my brother worked at Best Buy and got us a nice discount, but this camera is awesome. Get something that records in HD.

  If you are looking for a full-sized camera, I can't help.  

  We have a Flip and it's awesome for throwing in your diaper bag so you always have it when you need it.

  We have the Flip HD and it's awesome. Very compact and I think two hours of recording time is more than I'll ever need at one time.

  We have Kodak's version of the Flip (Kodak Zi8) and DH loves it.  We chose it over the Flip b/c it was slightly cheaper @ the same quality, and it records on removable SD cards.  We can get ~4 hours of recording on one 16GB card, and carry additional cards with us in case we need them, which is especially helpful on vacation or all-day outings.

  We got the flip cam.  Really easy to use and pocket sized.  I got it at Amazon and got a new one but the previous generation.  Saved about $70 off of the newest generation.  
  

  I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...
