Re: Questions for 2nd time moms with induction 1st time....

  • 1) I was induced at 41 weeks and 1 day. My OB pretty much told me "Your placentas breaking down, youre baby's going to die". And denied to do a NST. So yeah, dead baby card, I agreed to the induction. Not neccesary at all and I regret agreeing to it...

2)Ive never had any BH with either pregnancy. Im a wierdo, I know.

  • 1. I was 2 weeks overdue. My dr asked if I wanted to be induced and my answer was HECK YA LETS GO NOW.

    2. Yes, starting around the 3rd trimester

  • I was induced at 37w5d b/c of high blood pressure
I'm hoping this time is different

I did have some Braxton Hicks, but usually only when I over did it and didn't drink enough water

  • I was induced at 40w exactly for PIH.  After 3 nights it didn't work, but my bp and proteins went down so I got to go home.

BHs would happen when I was on the elliptical machine and towards the end when I had to pee or baby pushed too hard.

  • 1) Why did you have to be induced the 1st time?

My water broke on my due date, but labor wasn't starting on it's own...  After they started the pitocin (which wasn't that bad, for me), all went quickly and relatively easily.  I was lucky.

    2) Did you have Braxton Hicks during your 1st pregnancy?

    Yes.

  • 1) Why did you have to be induced the 1st time? For my own convenience. I was 40 weeks.

    2) Did you have Braxton Hicks during your 1st pregnancy? Yes, starting at 18 weeks and I had them everyday multiple times a day throughout my pregnancy. I had some pretty bad episodes of them coming frequently throughout my pregnancy, but never dialated.

  • 1. I was overdue and had GD.  Doc was worried about the size of the baby.

    2. I had some cramping 2 days before induction.  There was a massive wind storm, DH was stuck at work, and a tree fell on our house.  I'm positive it was stress related, but it wasn't bad.

  • 1. Yes, 40 weeks 1 day. I was already 3cm and when they stripped my membranes the day before I went to 4cm. I was very favorable for induction and DS was measuring huge. That's the biggest factor (effacement and dilation). If you're closed up, I would be more hesitant to be induced. Thank God we induced because LO was 9 lbs. I don't think I could have him vaginally if we waited much longer (i'm very petite).

    2. None. Ever.

  • My water broke (well, leaked) at 40w6d so I was induced with pitocin after that to move things along as they like to deliver the baby within 24 hours of water breaking...plus I was overdue!

Not that I recall / identified.

  • 1.  Induced at 39 wks-DH was on a mandatory bus. trip on EDD

    2.  Yes, had Braxton Hicks for wks. including the morning of my induction

Side note-I'd loved being induced and waking up to "Today, I'm having a baby" and feeling prepared.  No mishaps of water breaking in the grocery store,etc...  Also,  when I went into the hospital I was 4 cm dialated and effaced (I forget how much) but chances are I probably would've have given birth w/in 2 days.

  • 1.  Induced at 40w3d due to borderline low fluid levels.

    2.  None for me

  • I ended up being put on pitocin because it was taking so long. I was going to be induced the day before I actually had contractions but the hospital was too full to accomodate me. I was only 1 day past my due date anyway. I never really had braxton hicks.

  • 1) Why did you have to be induced the 1st time? It wasn't technically an induction- my water broke before 35 weeks and they slowed my labor all day because they didn't have a NICU bed available and were waiting for one of the other babies to be airlifted before delivering DD, just in case. Then, when the space was open, they gave me some Pitocin to start things back up again as they wanted her out (we were closing in on 24 hours since water broke). So I did have induction drugs after having labor artificially stalled. (Also, I loved everything about my labor and don't think the pit or the epi affected my delivery experience negatively at all)

    2) Did you have Braxton Hicks during your 1st pregnancy? Not sure- I had back labor and I probably wrote off a lot of back pain as pregnancy aches when they may have been BH.

  • I was 41 weeks, 3cm and 90% effaced and had been that way for over a week. The docto kept offering to induce and I kept putting him off. I finally gave in and was glad, DS was 9lbs 2 oz.

If I had it to do over again, I think I would have held out longer. I had wanted a natural birth and pitocin and being confined to a bed made a pain-med-free birth impossible for me.

  • 1) My doctor started pushing for me to do an induction as soon as I hit 40 weeks, even though baby and I were very healthy.  I finally relented at 41 weeks but looking back, I wish I had waited to go into labor on my own until 42 weeks.

    2) I had Braxton Hicks all.the.time during my pregnancy.  They started at 20 weeks and there were many times I would start getting the every few minutes until I did something to make them go away.

  • Induction
Induced at 39w6d because of early-onset GD. After 24 hours of labor, I ended up with a c-section.

    BH Contractions
I had one BH contraction during my entire pregnancy, and it was somewhere around 29-31 weeks. Other than that, I never had a single contraction until I was induced.

  • 1) I tested GBS+ and my mom had 2 very fast deliveries. I was already dilated to a 4 and about 90% effaced by 38 weeks so my OB wanted to make sure I'd be in the hospital long enough to have a full dose of antibiotics before DD was born. I was induced at 39w1d.

    2) I've had BH with all 3 pgs.

  • 1. I was induced a 38 weeks due to pre-E. I was admitted on a Monday night for the induction to start Tuesday morning, but I started to go into pre-labor on my own that night.  They have me some morpine so that I could sleep and then started to the pitocin first thing in the morning.  They broke my water a few hours later and thats when the labor got intolerable. I got the epidural about 45 mins after they broke my water. A couple hours passed and when it was time to push, I only pushed about 45 minutes (seemed like 5) and he was out!

    2. Yes, I did. I don't remember when they started though.  Maybe around 30 weeks or so..

  • 1. Dr insisted.  I was 41w 1d.  My dr wanted to be the one to deliver me, and she was on call on Tuesdays.  She sent me in on Monday night.  I didn't actually end up delivering until Thursday morning.  DD was only 7lbs 11oz, covered in hair still.  We found out in this pg that I ovulate 2 wks later than I "should."  So DD was actually 39w 6d when she was born.

    2. A little.  I actually don't remember having them.  When I started having them this time I complained to DH that I didn't have them w/ DD and he reminded me that I did.

  • 1) High blood pressure at 37 weeks 4 days.

    2) Yes.

  • I was induced at 39 weeks because I was spitting proteins in my urine.  I did have some minor BH.

  • 1) I was induced 8 days after my EDD. It was a decision I was comfortable with and so was my DH and my OB. It doesn't mean too much, but, the growth u/s at 36 weeks was showing she was about 2 weeks ahead. She ended up being 8 lbs 7 oz when she was born.

    2) No

  • I was induced becuase my water broke and I didn't go into labor.  So after 5 hours they induced so that I would deliver within 24 hours of my water breaking.

I did have braxton hicks (don't remember when they started!) But had some episodes that were intense enough that I thought it was the early stages of labor!

  • 1) 41 weeks, labor was not progressing.

    2) no BH for me.

  • 1. Induced on the day we hit 37 weeks because I had been on bed rest for 8 weeks and in the hospital 4 times prior due to high BP and I began to spill protein and my fluid levels were low. It was time too...my placenta was in pieces when I delivered.

    2. Yes, but not often.  I have had more already this pregnancy than I did with DD.

  • 1.  Induced at 39 weeks for a variety of reasons, but it was a very positive experience for me.  From the time I checked in to the hospital until DS was born was a total of 6 hours.  I know I'm strange, but thanks to a great epidural labor and delivery was not painful at all for me.  Will be induced again this time around 38 or 39 weeks for the same laundry list of reasons.

    2.  Had BH on a regular basis starting around 20 weeks.  Regular basis= daily for me.

  • 1.  induced @ 40 weeks after my water broke, but no real labor started.  ended up with an emergency section over 24 hours later, but had a great and easy recovery.

    2.  no BH here, that i could feel at least.

  • 1) Why did you have to be induced the 1st time?

Induced at 38w6d because of low amniotic fluid levels.

    2) Did you have Braxton Hicks during your 1st pregnancy?

Tons of them, no matter what I did.  I was diagnosed with an irritable uterus and was put on Procardia and reduced activity after I started dilating at 32 weeks.

  • 1.  I was induced at 41w6d.  My doc said they weren't likely to let me go past 42 weeks.  I was 90% efaced and dialated to just 1cm for about 2 weeks.  I tried everything do put myself into labor and it didn't work.  Sooo hoping that I go naturally this time around!

    2.  No BH for me.

  • 1. I was induced at 39wks due to Pre-E

    2. Maybe, but not really sure. all of my labor pains ended up being in my back so maybe I did, but just blew it off as back pain.

  • 1) I was induced because my water broke and the contractions never came.

    2) I started having Brackston Hicks at about 30 weeks they would come and go usually at night.
