Originally, our goal was 6 months. Now that Audrey is having latching issues and I am EP (although still trying every darn time) I'm starting to think I won't be able to do it that long.
Just curious of everyone's goals... I feel like such a horrible mother!!!
Re: What is your goal for BF?
Original goal was 12-14 months, now I'm thinking 18. But we never had any issues.
Good luck!
I committed myself to 6 months, with the option to extend my contract (
at that time. I would love to make it a year, but honestly, it's been very difficult to keep up pumping with my work/travel schedule. But travel season will be over in December, so it might not be as difficult.
Mine was 3 months, we had issues latching etc...so I've been EPing since day 3. I almost stopped a few weeks ago but felt guilty because I don't have supply issues and so many would do anything to be able to provide enough breastmilk for their DC. So I've continued and it's exhausted at times but I've finally got myself pumping every 5-6 hours instead of 2-3.
I go back to work on thurs so we'll see how it worksout.
I hope to pump until my son is 6 months old.
Baby J is here! Born on her mama's birthday.
11 pounds, 7 ounces and 23" long at birth!

2 years or until she self weans. The first 6 weeks are the hardest. I promise, it does get easier and it is so worth it.
Do you have a LLL group near you?
My initial goal is 3 months (until I go back to work). I'll play it by ear after that point. If I can make it to 6 months I'll be very proud of myself.

My goal was 6 months but I had too many problems and I hated it and so did he. I started EP but came down with Mastitis (from BFing) about 10 days ago and the antibiotics didn't help it. So now I am stopping EPing to take an antibiotic that can't be given to him (I'm allergic to ALL the other ones). I felt guilty at first but have great support from my family and provider. I have enough BM saved up for about 2-3 more weeks so he'll get it for a month if it's used as a suppliment. We had already started him on FF at night so he's adjusted already. Don't feel guilty if it doesn't work out. Do what is right for you and your LO. I also used Shields my best advice is to buy a few and try different sizes. The hospital made me use a SMALL one and it really tore my nipples up, as soon as I switched to a bigger one it felt some what better.

My goal was 3 months and I made it! Now my daughter is 4 months old and getting formula twice a day and then I bf 3 times a day. So far it has worked out great. I am going to ween her off by the end of January b/c we are going away for a week. If we weren't going away I would probably stick it out until 9 months.
Fortunately, my daughter was a natural at latching on...but not all babies catch on that quickly. Keep trying and don't get frustrated. I remember some days I was ready to pull my hair out, b/c she wanted to eat every hour! My husband would have to calm me down and remind me how good breast milk was for our daughter. I had many friends that tried BFing and it just didn't work out for them...you are not a bad mom, do whatever is best for you. Formula contains all the vitamins your baby needs too!
I just want to thank everyone for their posts. It makes me feel like I can keep going. Today was such a rough day for me that I felt like giving up. It doesn't feel like I'm giving her enough so after she eats I pump to help my supply and then she cries again and I give that to her which I know defeats the purpose. The cluster feedings are crazy. I would go back to the lactation consultant but what do I say? It isn't like there are latch problems. I do use a nipple shield about 75% of the time. I'm trying to wean her off of it but when she is psycho crying I can barely get her to take the shield...
