Infertility

*BIG FAIL* on regular Dr's part

So I emailed my Dr. this am to ask if the meds im taking for my shoulder pain are safe if im TTC. I made it clear that we are *trying* to get pregnant. This is what he responded with.

Congratulation on your pregancy. It must be exciting to have this baby growing inside of you. I double checked for you. Flexeril is safe for pregnancy. You can take it at bedtime only.
Another option would be cortisone infection. I prefers to wait on it until your pregnancy is more established.

Let's not even get on the spelling errors but I was in shock and a bit sad =(

Re: *BIG FAIL* on regular Dr's part

  • OMG! I would respond back with a list of all the treatments that you have done. That is rediculous!

  • Oy. Is it possible a nurse or intern was answering the email on the Dr's behalf? I find it hard to believe somebody with an MD (or even an RN!) would be such an idiot. Scary.

  • Yeah, that's one helluva fail.  I'd be finding a new doc if I were you.

  • Wow, just wow. I would probably respond with something emphasizing that you are still *trying*.

So, he says an option is a cortisone infection?  That doesn't sound very pleasant

  • DW thinks I should respond and correct him but really im just upset that he didnt read the email enough to see that I said we are *trying* to get pregnant. I may send him an email back that lists the procedures and meds ive taken and add that I have yet to " have a baby growing inside me" but thanks

I think he meant infection. But its sad that A) He did not read the email correctly B) He has MAJOR spelling errors and C) He congratulated me on my phantom pregnancy!

    Thanks Doc!

  • Ugh. I'm sorry. That's ridiculous and I would be seriously upset.

As a side note, that's good to know about Flexeril, though, as I take it occassionally for shoulder pain, too!

  • Its a little scary that your Dr didn't really read your email, but yet gave you advice anyway.  I know that nobody is perfect, but geeze, thats his job.  That would be enough for me to be getting a new doc.
