I am not a fan. I even tried them with prefolds, and I still dont like them. If you decide to go that route let me know. I have 6 of the mediums. They have all been washed, but only one has been used.

These are the brands that we have tried/use: gdiapers (with gcloth and the once in awhile disposable insert), flip, bumgenius 4, and blueberry pockets. We use them all on a 15 month old girl (she's 18lbs. and about 29inches tall) and a 3 month old boy (he's about 13 - 14 lbs right now and probably close to 25inches tall).
So far, we like the gdiapers best for day time use and bumgenius 4 for night time use. The flip is whatever. I use it, but it's not really our go to diaper at all. Not impressed with the fit of the blueberry.
Gdiapers (this is strictly our experience and is no way intended to be what I think others should expect.....everyone has dif. preferences and every baby is dif.):
Pros:
--- trim fit and cute. I like the 'underwear' type look of them. I also like the rise on both kids and the waistband is very adjustable with the velcro.
--- Do up in the back.
--- All mess (poop and pee) is contained in the plastic snap in liner. It keeps the cover more able to be used multiple times during the day. We usually use 1 - 2 covers per day per kid.
--- Takes up very little space in home/diaper bag.
---- The gcloth is absorbant enough for us. I like that I can also add a doubler for Dominic (he's a more heavy wetter than Natalie). There is plenty of room in the liner for extra inserts!
--- Company sends free velcro replacements if the need arises. Super helpful customer service, although I'm sure that applies to many cloth diaper companies:)
Cons:
--- some people get annoyed with the snap in liner. We don't, but I can see how this could be a con. I get annoyed with stuffing pocket diapers. To each their own.
--- Overnight use is limited. I can easily fit two gcloths in the snap in liner and that works fine for Natalie at night, but not for Dominic. He needs more absorbancy.
--- Eventually the snap in liners wear out and they need to be replaced or the elastic needs to be reinforced.
--- You need to make sure you put them on correctly. It's very simple to get it right, but it is important to make sure they are on correctly with this brand.
I wouldn't go out and buy a ton of them right away. I'd get 1 or 2 little gpants and some gcloth and try them out and see if you like them. That's what we did before investing into more of them.
btw: Cloth diapering is very addictive. I'm looking forward to trying more brands/types (I'm trying to decide which fitteds to try out), but I'm not sure how to tell DH:)
eta: Dominic has been in them since birth (although we started with tiny g's...literally the only thing including disposables that contained his newborn explosive poop) and Natalie has been in them since she was about 7 months old (or so). We did have a period of time when they did not work that great for Dominic (he was around the 10/11 lbs mark) and that I had to really fiddle with them to get them to fit right for him. Now, they work great for him!
gdiapers are ok. They're not my favorites and as a newborn poo always got all over the liners so I could never reuse them. They also sometiems left marks from the snap-in liner. But they were a nice trim fit and they contained the messes really well. I used them and another hybrid system (Smart Nappies, which I liked better) when DD was really little.
If you want to try them, I do have some gpants, 6 gcloths and a package of disposable liners I want to unload! I have the Smart Nappies, too.
I only used them when she was tiny, but now we use one-size pockets.
OP- keep in mind that newborn/infant poop is runny and pudding-like until solids are introduced. Containment is not the same in an infant and an older child. We always had to change the shell when LO pooped because it got everywhere. Maybe we would have had better luck when she was older.

We love our gdiapers. With that said though, I still recommend not stocking up on one kind of diaper until you know what will work best for you and your LO. DS is tall and skinny, and we have problems with some of the diapers that most people love. Also, what works this month may not work in another 2 months, so it's good to have a variety for changing needs. I recommend doing a trial or ordering a variety of diapers. Check out https://www.jilliansdrawers.com for a good trial. It doesn't include gdiapers, but there are a bunch of other systems with it.
As for my gdiaper review, I'll follow in the same format as one of the PPs with a pro/con list. I agree with most of her list too.
Pros:
Super trim! They seriously look like little underwear and are the trimmest diaper ever! It does have a fairly low rise, but I like that. All of DS's pants fit with no problem. They take up next to no room in the diaper bag. Even if I started to use another diaper at home, I'd use these as our 'traveling' diaper.
Easy! I think they are about as easy as pocket diapers. Just snap in the liner and add a gcloth and it's good to go. They are easily prepped ahead of time, and once they are, they are easy as disposables to put on. I always have 2 or 3 preloaded, and DH has no problem using them.
Good quality. They seem very well made - I like the velcro on our gdiapers more than on any of our other diapers.
No red marks! Because it just needs skin contact with the liner, they don't need to be very tight, which means they don't leave any red marks on my baby's skin!
Absorbant. I don't use them overnight because DS is a heavy wetter, but he can go 3 hours during the day without an issue, unless he poos. Even with his massive, explosive poos, we rarely get any poo leakage (and if we do, it's just a tiny big around the legs - it never gets on his clothes), and I think we're only getting that because he's starting to get too big for the size he's in. Some people complain that after a poo, the shell is unusable again, but in my experience, it's like that with any cover/insert. If it's just pee, the cover can be air dried and reused, but poo almost always gets on the cover and/or liner in any cover/insert system - maybe DS just has huge, watery poos though.
Cons:
They are sized, so if they are your main system, you have to buy new ones at each stage. But, this gives the advantage of perfect sizing and extreme trimness.
Some people have complained that the snaps on the snap in liner irritate their LO, but we haven't had an issue. It would be pretty easy to glue a tiny piece of fleece or something on it though if it were irritating.
I hate the disposable inserts. IMO, they aren't much better than regular disposable diapers. I do love the gcloth though. If you use the disposable inserts, you definitely won't be saving money, if that's your main reason for CD.
Good luck and welcome to the addicting world of cloth diapers!!
I am pro gDiapers and agree with all the g-likers. When washing the snap-in liners, I put them in a small mesh bag to prevent them from being whipped and stretched around the washer drum. I can't justify the expense of buying the inserts all the time, nor buying the gCloth, but I'm in the process of making inserts out of fabrics that I think will work better (working out to be about 50 cents each). Before I used prefolds and it was okay, but I'm going for better. I have 2 kids using gDiapers [I won't get into 3 yr. old potty training issues now ] and #3 will be using the same ones they did, but I want to try the new tiny gPants too. Yes, after 3.5 years, the aplix is a bit weak, but I'm still in love.
