She just texted me, wanting to know what we all wanted for Christmas. I told her we all have Amazon wish lists online.

5 minutes later I get another text saying, 'these are the worst lists ever, I'm not buying your son a doll, and I'm not buying you new sheets!'

Okayyyyy ... so DON'T! No one said you had to! You ASKED for ideas, I gave them to you!

See... I have to disagree... If she asks for all that, her sister might think she isn't serious.

I think you just keep it real cool and just say "You know, I've thought about it, and I think you're right. All that stuff on our list sucks. So instead, we all just want you to get us one pony as a joint gift. I'm researching Pony Farms right now, and some even offer registries where you get to pick out the one you want. They're not very expensive if you get the runt of the litter, with like a lazy eye or something. I'll be back to you with specifics."

Why ask what you want if she refuses to buy it? My BIL is like this, DH said he wanted stuff for the baby for his bday, and his BIL was like "that's stupid, I don't want to do that"..so DH said "well if you don't want to buy the baby stuff, then a gift card to cash will be great".
