Do you always buy the photos that they set up? They usually have a professional come in around twice a year to get the kids' photos, then of course, it's optional if you want to purchase any. I feel bad if I don't get at least the smallest package (usually not too much - $35), but sometimes the photos are just "ok". I feel like I am wasting an opportunity for a "professional" photo of DS if I don't buy them since we don't have a lot of free time to do it on our own.
Re: Daycare moms...
Another MDO mom...I just got his first pictures from MDO today. Luckily they let you look at them before ordering. I am pretty certain I won't be buying any of them. The whole scene just looks so forced to me. I can get a lot better pictures at home when he's genuinely having fun!
I'm sure we will buy his school pictures in elementary, but I just don't feel pulled to buy these unless they are really good.
I've bought all the preschool photos, but we've had great luck and the pics have been really good so far, knock on wood. For individual pics they always take the children outside to a wooded area, so the background looks fantastic which is definitely helpful.
I'm a sucker for pictures. This year they let the girls take individuals plus they also posed them together. So I bought three packages - yes did I mention I'm a sucker?!?!
MDO mom here too and I have ordered everytime. They do an individual picture in the fall and then a class picture in the spring.
I just got the fall pictures back and they are super cute. The photographer is one of the MDO teachers and both last year and this year were great!
Like PP, they usually take the photos outside and they turn out nice. The packages are super cheap also. Our largest package cost $20!
DS is new to an actual daycare so we recently had our first experience with this. I did not buy the pictures. They were okay, but not worth the $60 they wanted in my opinion. You had to look at them in the lobby when you did pickup on a specific afternoon only, and then purchase right there if you wanted them. I would have preferred to take them home and see what DH thought, etc. Also, they used a Christmas background. I get that the holidays are nearing in, but picture day was 2 weeks before Halloween and not everyone wants their child posed in the "snow."
In the future I'll buy the pics if DS is smiling nicely, I like the background, etc.
First off, Z is so darn cute in your signature!
DD's daycare does photos every fall/spring...she actually just had the Christmas picture taken yesterday. We've bought them each time so far because they've been cute pictures. However, the company the daycare uses just offers sheets instead of packages (kind of like the Picture People). I'd prefer packages so we'd have more to give away to family. If it's not a good picture, I won't have a problem not buying them...I'm sure I'll feel that twinge of guilt, though.
Thanks!
I didn't realize MDO did them, as well - that's really cool. I went ahead a bought a package. Just 2 5X7s and 8 wallets - we'll give them to family. They are taking Christmas pictures tomorrow! I am just now ordering the "fall" ones - they had skipped some pics in the summer, so I guess they are catching up, but I don't think I need them a month apart. geez.
I just bought Rena's school picture and it came out really cute! Her school also does them twice a year- one class pic and one individual pic. I'm a sucker and would probably buy them every year...even if they don't always come out good! They had a package option for 6 sheets for $60 which I thought was a pretty good deal.
Last year she had only been at school 2 weeks when they took pics and she screamed the whole time and they didn't get one. So I was just happy she actually got a pic this year!
Evan's picture was pretty funny. He looked like "what are you lookin' at?", but DH didn't want to pass it up, so we got 1 digital picture on CD that we could do whatever we want with.
I thought the prices were pretty expensive. The biggest package without a cd was over $70. We can do better at Babies R Us.
