Visiting from 3rd Tri: How many bottles and what sizes do I need?

Hello!!

how many bottles and what sizes do I need for a newborn?

Also, can you recommend your bottle brand?

Thanks!

  • Every baby is going to have its own preference, you can't really predict what will work for them; don't purchase large quantities of one brand until you know for sure that they like it. Most bottles have starter kits with a couple of bottles, so I recommend having one or two brands at home to try so you're not stuck with a huge investment with something that doesn't work. We tried Tommy Tiptee and Breastflow bottles with no success; DS likes Nuks. (DS currently EBF'd until we find a formula that doesn't upset his tummy, does bottles of expressed milk at daycare)

  • I agree with PP that you don't want to buy a lot of one brand of bottles before you know what works for your baby and what doesn't.  We use Playtex Drop-ins for B's daycare bottles because they're so convenient and because our pedi recommended them as the most similar to a breast nipple (B is EBF).
  • We use Dr. Brown bottles after having problems with Tommee Tippee.  We loved the design of Tommee Tippee but we had leaking issues and problems with the valve sticking shut that is supposed to reduce air in the bottle.  Our son does very well with the Dr. Brown bottles.  They have extra pieces so they take a tad longer to clean, but its not a big deal.  We have nine bottles and its a good amount.  We just got the larger Dr. Brown bottles since it was the second batch of bottles we had to buy. We had small and large Tommee Tippee's but didn't want to spend as much money the second time around.  The small are nice but you cant use them forever when you child starts drinking more than they hold.  If money is an issue I would think the bigger bottles are the way to go with any brand.

  • Every baby is different and will have their different preference. My LO likes the Dr.Brown's bottles and the playtex drop-ins. The drop-ins are convenient since you just have to carry extra liners and an extra nipple for longer trips.
