need advice

My daughter is just now starting to want to go on the potty. We have tried every few months since she was 2.5 and now she will finally go pee on the potty. The problem we are having is she is holding it. She also will not poop on the potty and has not gone in the last 3 days so of course she is getting crabby. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to just abandon the idea and put her back in a diaper but she has had UTI's before and she already has fluid on her kidney from holding it during those, the last thing we need is for her to be holding everything in. HELP!! Have any of you had problems with this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Bribes.  Candy, cookies, stickers, whatever works.

    We bribed our DD in the beginning and now she does it without.  We only offer a "treat" if she asks for it and that's less than half the time now.

    The trick is finding what she wants in exchange for what you want.
