Infertility

WWIFD?

I POAS this morning @ 13dpiui & it was a BFN.

When I went to my last WTF appointment, the RE stated that she thought I should do 1-2 more IUIs ( this one being one of them) before moving onto IVF. They lowered my dosage of clomid as they didn't like how thin my lining was the last time. They said that if my lining was thin again, then we definitely wouldn't do the 3rd IUI and just more onto IVF. Well, my lining was fine but I did not respond as well, so they said that my dosage would definitel be increase back the next time. BUT, if that increased dosage = thinner lining.

Honestly, I'm over this whole IUI business. The RE said that with my Dx, IUIs have a 6% chance & IVF is close to 50%. They don't want to switch to injectables + IUI as they said that it would basically have the same 6% sucess rate, as they are very conservative with injectables. We have a lifetime max of 6 AIs ( any combo of IUI/IVF) up to $25K, and DH's insurance doesn't cover anything IF related.

Would you either totally forgo IUI #3 and just wait for Jan to do IVF or would you see if they could just start right up with an IVF this very next cycle? I feel like doing another IUI ( with such low chances) is a waste of time, a try & $$ towards our max out. Also, we are only $1k away from our yearly OOP max (thanks to IF) so doing it this year would cost us a heck of a lot less vs. if we did it in Jan.

Also, my RE only puts patients on BCPs for a week or 2 before starting to stim. I have a week off at the end of December so if we could time this, we may be able to have the ER/ET that week (so I won't have to explain to my boss in Jan why I would need 2 random days off in a week).

I know I sound like I'm trying to rationalize just doing it next cycle but I want to know if you would do the same thing or would you do another IUI ?

Re: WWIFD?

  • I would cycle in December, but only if the cycle was a priority over any holiday/family events or issues. IVF is stressful and so are the holidays.

    Good luck with your decision.

  • Im moving to IVF next cycle.   We are going to max out my policy and switch to my husbands coverage. which we just found out is out-of-this world.

I burned through a good chunk of my precription money moving to injectables the last 2 cycles. So I have to cover some of the IVF meds myself.  I missed my last IUI attemempt becuase the follicales diapeared...and honestly I was releived.  I just didn't see the point in it.  The IUI is around $500, so it wouldn't be terrible to give another cycle a try.  Ne ways...hope that helps, good luck with the choices you have to make.

  • This exactly. We've already informed family that if our outcome from our appointment next week says we will be doing this in December we will prob not be present for most holiday functions. Just too much. I wish you the very best.

  • I'm sorry you got a BFN this morning ((hugs)).

If it were me, I'd go straight to IVF next cycle. Best of luck in making your decision.

  • I am sorry for your BFN. I would move on to IVF. You seem totally done with IUI and when you get to that point, it's probably time for you to move on. Especially since your doc won't do injectable IUIs. My doctor wanted me to do one more IUI before I moved on to IVF but I was just done with them. I would jump right into it. You have waited long enough and if you feel you are ready for it, I would go for it. Good luck!

  • Sounds like moving to ivf this cycle makes sense for you given the iui sucess rate and your insurance. That's what I eould choose if I was in your situation. Best of luck with your decision.

It definitely will be. As it is, we were planning on going on vacation during the week of Thanksgiving just to "get away". Both of our families live with-in 30 min of us, so we really won't be travelling.

  • I would absolutely move to IVF and cycle in December rather than January if it will cost you significantly less.

    Good luck!

  • UPDATE: So, even if I start the process as soon as AF shows, I couldn't do the ER/ET on my vacation as the labs closes the last 2 weeks of the year to do a full/complete cleaning. So, I guess the silver lining is that even though it will cost me more, my future embies will be in a newly (fully) cleaned environment. Smile I just can't take the emotional part of doing another IUI, so even if I'm on BCP for longer than I thought, it would be better for me, mentally.
