heartburn...

I had another rough night. I thought it was something I was eating...I thought taking Mylanta before I eat and before bed would help. I thought wrong. Terrible heartburn has woke me up around midnight for the past week almost now. I have a ridiculous mound of pillows to sleep on so that I am sleeping almost upright. The little sleep I am getting now is sitting straight up and killing my back and neck.

I even had the horrible choking sensation the other night that I read some ladies talking about on here.

I've been on Nexium for years, Tums suck and are such a joke and Mylanta helps but is not keeping it away. My next step is to try Zantac before bed.

Anyone have any other tips for me?

Re: heartburn...

  • i have this problem too.  my doctor has me on a prescription, plus the tums and maylox.  He said if that dosn't help, i could raise the head of my bed some by putting phone books underneath the legs.  that way your're sleeping at a tilt and the stomach acid will stay down, and your not hurting your neck and back by propping yourself up.  I plan on trying this the weekend.  Good luck!

  • I tried Tums but there are useless as you previously mentioned. Zantac has been the only thing that has helped for me.

  • Putting the head of the bed up helped me alot in my first pregnancy. Its way more comfortable than sleeping on tons of pillows. Plus unlike pillows you don't have to worry about readjusting a pile in the middle of the night. My bed has wheels on it so I put books in my bed frame instead of under the legs.

Hope everything gets better for you!

  • Zantac is really a life saver for me.  Tums did not do much, and Maylox was giving me major loose stools at weird times of the day.

I hope if you try that, and it works for you!

  • Peppermint tea!

Tums and Maalox were not really helping - peppermint tea has been much more effective. I drink a couple of cups a day. My OB recommended it.

This for me as well-without Zantac, I would not be able to eat, drink, or sleep

  • My doc put me on Prevacid and it has made a huge difference.  I had heartburn 24 hours a day and couldn't sleep before in spite of taking tons of Zantac and tums.

I don't know how different this is than Nexium but I thought I'd share.  I really hope you find relief heartburn can really really make you miserable
