I have had two showers and received so many generous gifts, but I am trying to figure out what other necessities (and how many of them) I need before my girls arrive. So here are my questions for MoMs:
We didn't receive any blankets at our showers - how many do we need to buy?
We have tons of onesies and pant/top outfits, but no sleepers or footed outfits. How many of those do we need?
We have 7 burp cloths (practical kind) and 4 cute/fancy going out ones. Do we need more?
In terms of activity centers all we have is one bouncer and one play mat things for the floor. We also have two boppies. I was going to get a swing. Do I need more of these kinds of things, or should I wait to see what they like?
TIA!

My blog * We made the national news!
for our first dd we needed/had 8 footed sleepers. there are so many times they spit up or potty through their clothes. it also seemed like we never had enough burp clothes.
good luck!
We have no less than 3 dozen burp clothes, and there are still days that we come close to running out. our duo is extra special spitty
But even with a "normal" level of spit up, I think you'll need more. And make sure what you have is good and absorbent. A fancy burp cloth may look cute, but when stuff runs right off it and onto you, it defeats the purpose.
Ditto on the fancy burp cloths - the few we got were cute but really not practical! We liked the plain cloth diapers you can get in big packs for cheap. If you dry them without fabric softener, they stay more absorbent too.
For blankets, we had some heavier blankets for laying on the floor or covering up DS in the car seat, and thinner ones for swaddling (make sure they're big, like the Aden + Anais ones).
You might check your supply of socks/soft booties for when they're not wearing sleepers with feet. I liked the Zutano ones because they would stay on, but at most we only needed one or two pairs (per baby). Check on hats too -- I used to lose hats, but otherwise only needed a few of those too.
I look at the Babies R Us registry template lists for ideas of what I'm missing. It's outrageously long, and most of those things are not "needs", but it reminds me of things I would have forgotten.
I think it's a good idea to wait and see what they like in terms of bouncy chairs, swings, etc. Get one of each, and then see if you need to buy another. We bought two of everything, and there was certainly stuff that they didn't like.
You really want comfy clothes for them for the first few months. You'll be hanging at home mostly, I,'m assuming? Sweatpants, jumpers/rompers/things that are one piece, and definitely footed jammies.
We had WAY too many blankets. If you don't have any get a few, but don't overdo it at first.
You will want more footie outfits. I found in the beginning when you are changing a lot of diapers that these were better for me than pants/tops. I'd say get at least 2 per baby, but if I were you, I'd get at least 4 per baby (but I tend to over do it!)
MORE burp cloths. We had a TON and we needed them, but we also had very spitty babies. The non fancy ones were the best. We had a friend give us a bunch she made with cloth diapers and fabric...the BEST!
GET a swing. WE had three! I personally highly recommend the FP My little lamb swing. AMAZING!
My b/g twins were born in October and we really only had 2 blankets a piece and they were made for us. We had the covers that go over the car seats so they never neaded coats or blankets while going out. As far as footed sleepers go we had and still keep enough of them for each to get through an entire week without doing laundry. It was one less thing that we had to worry about then and now. As far as burp clothes go YES you need more. Even if your little ones aren't extra spitty you will use them all the time for the next year. My kiddos are now a year and we still use them every once in a while just to clean up their spills.
We had two bouncers, 1 activity center, we started with one swing and because both loved it we got another later (but I would wait on buying two up front because mine hated the original swing that we had) You will definitely use both boppies. As long as you have the basics you can always go get anything else that will make things easier later!
Good Luck!
