Can I eat tripe?

I've googled but can't really come up with anything that has a legitimate answer. I love tripe soup and just not sure if that's something that is safe to eat. I'm leaning toward no but my mom says it's OK. I wouldn't eat it but my friend brought me some the other day and I feel bad telling her I threw it away...

Kidding! If it's cooked I don't see a problem with it, right? In soup I wouldn't think there would be a whole lot of it anyway? Good luck, I hope you get to eat it if you want to.
