Infertility

Intro :)

I figured maybe it's time to come out of lurking so I can ask some questions :)  MH and I have been TTC since last fall.  I've had b/w done and an ultrasound and so far, everything looks normal with me.  MH had 2 SAs and they both had low volume (.5) and 3% morph.  No one has seemed concerned about the morph so far (obgyn, urologist) but the volume may be a problem.  He's getting his prostate checked tomorrow to see if there's a blockage.  Uro said: "you can probably get your wife pregnant eventually, but if you want a baby now, you should move on to IUI."  I feel like both the uro and the obgyn talk about IUI like it's going to the store to pick up a gallon of milk :(

Anyway, I have an appointment in a few weeks with an RE, so I guess we'll make some decisions soon above moving forward.  I think this board has already given me a lot of good information and I appreciate you all already. Thanks :)

Re: Intro :)

  • Welcome! If everything is fine with you, meaning you're ovulating on your own, IUI should be pretty easy. It's all the meds that lead up to it that are hard, but if you just need the IUI on it's own, it won't be a big deal. Good luck!

  • I agree, if it's just getting his sperm up and close, it's basically like a pap and pretty easy.

    Welcome and good luck!

  • She's right, it is just like a PAP.  And your reaction to the meds will depend, I don't think I was that crazy, but my DH would say different.

Good Luck, and we are here when you need it!

  • Thanks ladies, that actually is one of the questions I had... that is, whether it's worth it to do an umedicated IUI since I don't seem to have issues right now?  It seems like the success rate is much lower without meds of some kind.  (On the other hand, I am surprisingly feeling worried about the possibility of twins, even though it seems like on clomid the chance goes up to about 10%? Though I've read as high as 20%).

  • Welcome and good luck!

I have no ovulation issues but we still did meds for me with an IUI. An RE will start you on a low dose, probably 50mg clomid, and will monitor you to see how many follies you have. They typically call off the IUI if there are more than 3 follies. I was on 50mg clomid 4 different times and had 1 follie 3 times and 3 follies once.

    1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
    2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!
