I also had to take off my woven wrap and put it through the X-ray machine. I have flown with DD five times and never had to do that. I argued a little and all they would tell me was that the policy changed. So annoying. Thankfully DH was there to hold her while I re-wrapped (I don't know how to do any of the wraps while wearing her). So I guess it's Ergo and RS for the airport from now on. Boo.

I do plan on emailing back the security manager I have an email from and asking him if the policy changed.

I have to say I am surprised they haven't done that before. I don't know the laws but I can understand why they would do it. I am sure it was a PITA though! I use my Ergo when we fly, so easy!

I mean, if those are the rules, whatever, but to keep changing the rules is frustrating. Do I need to e-mail TSA every time I fly to find out what's new this time? The email I have from the TSA security manager is from August, telling me that it is perfectly fine to wear her in a woven.

It is what it is. I just wish I'd known!

I've seen YouTube videos of FWCC while holding the baby ... guess I need to get a handle on those! Or get better at doing the rucksack (which I will currently only do over the bed or with DH as a spotter)!

On the plus side, she slept the whole 2 hr flight, and they didn't make me take her out for landing (an extra 20 minutes of sleep for her!).

Sadly, you will probably not get a clear response as to what the policy is. Most of TSA policies are not made public, and if they are, the descriptions are (purposefully?) vague. I have been writing to my congresswoman and senators about the TSA, the new body scan machines, and the elusive new "enhanced" pat downs. I believe the TSA is going too far and trampling on our constitutional rights. I urge anyone who is also upset with the TSA to please write to your representatives.

Ugh. That sucks. For the past few years when we travel to see family we always travel through an airport in a small town, a mid-sized town and a metropolis. In our experience, the smaller airports are sticklers for the rules (only ziplocs, not reusuable travel bags for liquids, no belts, jewelry, vests, scarves, chaps etc.) but are used to passengers flying with weird things (checking guns, a beaver skull in a carry-on etc.) while the larger airports tend to be more lax in general about things like clothing layers, BW, declaring baby items, medicines etc. but freak out about weird things (a cast iron skillet in a carry-on).

However, since we go through such a weird series of airports, nothing surprises me anymore (even though I still b*tch and am annoyed by the uselessness of it all). Last time in our small airport we had to take M's robeez off and his fleece vest as he was carried through the metal detector and then all of my stuff was swabbed (including each page of his board books) because I had declared his applesauce and milk. On the way back through DC, he was wearing a jacket with "real" shoes and the TSA guy just looked at his food/drinks and said it was just fine and we walked right through.

They did, something about mail bombs, but I've traveled since then and didn't have to take DD out of the wrap. I don't think the employees even know the regulations. I also think that one of the women that waved me through was intimidated by the wrap and that's why she didn't push when I asked if I could just leave DD in it.

I have always had to remove ds from wraps and take them off. Always. They make you remove jackets so I understand why they would make you remove a wrap. I guess I do not get the outrage of having to do this, and we travel all the time.

I think the outrage lies not in having to do it, but in the inconsistency of the policies. The opening poster emailed someone at TSA and was told she would be fine, and then she wasn't.

I am usually laid back, but when I fly I pride myself on being prepared. I don't pack my zip lock baggies or hardware, so I can just stick them in the bin. My shoes and coat are off as soon as I get in line. I am ready. I hold no one up. For some unknown reason this is really important to me.

After wearing the baby three times through security, it threw me off when I was asked to remove her. I had to hold people up. I was unprepared. If I had been aware that I would have to take her off I would never of put her on. The wrap would have been folded and we would have walked through easily. I like to know what the rules are so I can follow them. Inconsistency makes me crazy.

TSA altered the procedure in the past 2 weeks and now you cannot wear baby through security. I traveled on Oct 14 and 24 and was able to wear my LO in an Ergo w/out problems but just found out that they changed their policies, so come Thanksgiving week we'll be dealing with having to take her out of it when we go to/from Las Vegas to see family.

This is exactly right. I was annoyed that I thought I was prepared and then had to scramble. Now I know.

I wouldn't email them b/c I hardly think they have time to respond to every Tom *** and Harry who has a question.

But I would (and do) check their web site every time I fly just to make sure I know what the rules are b/c they seem to change them every other day.

PSA- with the new full-body scans you want a pat-down for yourself and you sure as sh!t want a pat-down for your children.

I know this is an older post (I'm catching up on my Bump from the weekend, ha!)-- but I feel so, so strongly about this last part! Get a pat-down if you're flying anytime soon, or at least do your research before walking through the scanner.
