3rd Trimester

If you're having a C-section...

When do you want visitors? Will you want your extended family & in-laws coming that same day or will you ask them to wait until the next day? I still don't know if I'll be allowed to try for a natural birth but I want to plan things ahead of time in case I have to have another C-section.

Re: If you're having a C-section...

  • I would want at least 12 hours to get some rest and bond with DS & DH.
  • Loading the player...
  • I will wait till the next day, they were in my room every 15 min taking out my foley catheter then the LC was there, then they were massaging my uterus, then I was vomiting for 2 hours, still trying to BF and poop so I could eat, and getting me up and walking once an hour. All I wanted to do was sleep.

The first few hours you are HIGH, I was "drunk dialing" people and I do not remember.

I'd say give it at the very least 6 hours from the time DC is born before anyone comes up.

  • I had visitors right away and I was so out of it that I honestly don't remember our conversations. Next time I will wait until the next day.
  • I had everyone there that day trying to get in and see the baby right after he was born.  They had barely closed me up before they were bugging the nurse to let them in.  I was given two hours of quiet time with DH and DS and I told them to let my mom in while DH went to eat.

After two hours the floodgates opened and everyone was there in my room.  Luckily, I felt fine.  Well, better than fine, I was so high that I didn't care who was there and really they didn't pay attention to me.  It really did not bug me at all, but again, I was pretty loopy.

Knowing when we will have the baby this time will allow us to stagger our visitors.  It was a Saturday when DS was born so everyone was off and made the trip.  This time we plan on scheduling groups throughout the three days we'll be there.  Grandparents first, then our siblings, etc.

  • I would like to wait to have visitors until the next day, but I will probably allow close family members to come sooner (like my mom and sister).
  • with my dd i only had my dh and my mom (my dh's mom is deceased) at the hospital.  i allowed visitors to come after we returned home.  no one will be allowed at the hospital this time either except for my dh, dd and mom.  give yourself some time.  c-sections are kind of hard.  i know i was out of it the first 6 hours or so.  i also didn't stay in the hospital long though.  i had my dd on a thursday and checked out that following saturday.
  • Unfortunately I know I will have visitors that first day.  Both of my boys will want to come, my MIL, and my mom and stepdad.  I'm hoping those are the only ones that come.  That first day kind of sucks.  After that it was all good.  Of course I didn't give a crap who came after my shot of demerol!
  • With DD I had so many people the minute I was in my room, this time my parents will show up just before I go in so I can see my DD before DS is born and my ILs are taking the day off and will be there sometime in the morning. It's on a Tuesday morning so most people will be working. I assume I'll have more visitors in the evening and the next day since my aunt, MIL and SIL are all off of work on Wednesdays. I didn't mind all the visitors with DD but this time I would like to let DD have some alone time with her new brother. I had DD on a Friday so I had people non stop all weekend and was very exhausted, I'm hoping it will be more relaxed this time.

  • No visitors for us 12-24 hours after my C section! ?It was hard telling his family that because they wanted to be in the room immediately after I was out of surgery....but I had to lay down the law :)
