Got Milk?

Anderson is almost one and I can't wait to ease him into milk and off his expensive formula.

I was wondering what type of milk do you ladies use?  And how did you introduce it? I was thinking whole for the vit. D, but some girls at work said they used two percent.  I was also thinking of mixing a little with the formula at first them slowly increase.  Is that what you did?

Anderson's Dr. appointment isn't until the 22nd after his first birthday, and I'll probably wait.  But I thought I'd ask...

Re: Got Milk?

  • Caroline is on whole milk.  I think it's recommended until at least 2 (maybe later) and then you can switch to 2%.

When we transitioned Caroline, I had some formula to use up so she got milk during the day and formula at night until that was gone.

  • Obviously not there yet, but I've read you should use whole milk the first couple of years.

This is what we did, except we had to use rice milk due to his milk allergy.

  • Use whole milk until he is 2.  I didn't give it to Rowen gradually or anything, at the time I didn't even think about easing into it.  I was so excited to get him off the expensive formula (he weaned himself at 6 months).  I just went cold turkey on his 1st birthday.  I also got rid of the bottles that day so it was probably a traumatic event but it didn't seem to bother him.  I think he associated formula with the bottles and milk with his sippy cup so it was an easy switch for us.

  • We tried mixing it with 1/2 breast milk and Alexa wouldn't drink it so we gave it to her strait up and she LOVED it. We use whole as you are suppose to until they are 2 for the fat content unless directed otherwise by your doctor.
