From others who may also be in Urban Areas without cars....
We don't own a car, so mostly use our carseat in taxis, occasionally rentals. We currently have the Snugride 22 and will grow out of it over the next few months-- probably by the beginning of the new year.
We got the 22 because I am short and small and cannot lift a whole lot, especially as I am often very quickly whisking and buckling this seat in and out of taxis., and i was a bit too weak to heft the heavier ones.
edit: after lifting my daughter for months, I realize I could have done it with the heavier seat. maybe. anyway, i can now.
We may be able to borrow from family or friends the Snugrider 35..... giving us an additional 13 pounds wiggle room to stay in an "infant carrier".
I have been toting and lifting a 17-18 pounder lately and now think I could handle the Snugrider 35 that friends are looking to give away/borrow out.
(it's from friends/family, so we know the source and its safety record and that it hasn't been in any crashes, etc.)
IMPORTANT Q: Does this work on the same stroller frame that the 22 fits on?
It's INCREDIBLY helpful for us as city dwellers to have use of the car seat carrier/stroller frame option as long as humanly possible.
We wouldn't just buy one of these for the short term, but if one landed in out lap from our cousin, it would really help us stretch our time in an infant carrier, which we need due to taking taxis and not having our own permanent ride.
Also, does it fit on the same carseat base as the Snugrider 22, which we already have? (We have an extra in the city and his parents have another installed in their car out in the burbs. So our current seat can go from taxi to zipcar (rental car) to grandma's ride really easily
We're trying to put off buying a convertible "big kid" carseat untill we know if we're getting a car, IF i get in to grad school, where I'll be going, will we need a car, blah, blah, blah.... (this story is long and even I don't want to hear it.....)
My kid is 17 pounds @ 7 months, I think I could feasibly keep her in this larger infant seat until 14 months or so. This would be very helpful to my non-car owning life.
Your thoughts and wisdom on the car seat thing are greatly appreciated. (I hope this was clear. I have a feeling it may have been confusing.)
Re: Carseats: do Graco Snugrider 22 and 35 fit on the same stroller frame?
The 22 does not fit in the base of the 32 (not sure about the stroller).
It could be awhile before LO gains that additional 5 pounds. If the 22 is working for you now, keep it. I know there are a few "airport" type strollers that will hold a convertiable. Maybe this would be a good option for you.
Ok. duh. I'm an idiot. LOL
I realize now that each size carseat comes with it's own base that it fits. We are hardly ever in a car, so this isn't my area of expertise. If it makes me sound any less stupid, the last time we even used a carseat was three weeks ago on vacation.
Anyway, I'm now figuring out online that the Snugrider stroller frame that I have IS compatible with any size of Snugride carseat (22, 32, and 35). At least thats what the internet is telling me.
I'm just trying to find a solution that lets me put a carseat in a taxi secured with a seatbelt only (no base) from time to time until I ABSOULUTELY have to buy the next kind of carseat where I will no longer be able to do that.
