Scary Injection ended me up in L&D

So this afternoon I had my iron injection. It was my second one. Last week I had half a dose and was totally fine so this time she gave me the full 100 mg. I got up and walked back to my desk right away (I work at the clinic and literally my desk was about 20 ft from the exam room). By the time I got to my desk, I felt like I was going to pass out. The ladies who share my office commented on my bright red face and asked if I was okay. I said not really as I then started having really severe chest pressure/tightness and couldn't really breath. They went and grabbed the nurse who grabbed more nurses and a doctor as well as the oxygen and whatever other equipment. It is sort of all a blur to me now. Apparently I was starting to turn blue and my oxygen saturation went down and my pulse was raising. I also got severe pain in my low back. It was honestly the scariest feeling I've ever had!

Within a few minutes of being on the oxygen, I started feeling much better. The nurse sat me in a wheelchair and took me over to the hospital to L&D for some monitoring after I was assessed by the OB doc at the clinic. Thank goodness our clinic is right across the street from the hospital.

So I just spent 3 hours there and all has been fine. I now feel completely normal and both baby's and my vitals are now completely normal. But seriously this was so scary! I'm just so thankful I work where I work. Couldn't have been in a better place.

Oh, and they determined that the injection likely went into vein so the Infufer likely went straight to my heart and caused me to have the reaction that I did.

Anyways.. just wanted to share. If they tell you at a clinic to wait for 15 or 30 minutes in the office after an injection in case of a reaction, DO IT! I was always one who got annoyed when I had to do that but now I realize how important it is.

Survived major c-section complications which led to massive blood transfusion, hysterectomy, BSO and pulmonary embolism. Very thankful to be alive to raise my kids! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
