If you moved onto IVF from IUI's how did you know it was time to move on? My RE said that its our best option. If money wasn't an issue that she would encourage us to go that route. I'm trying to decide if we should just start saving up for IVF or do a few more IUI's. Is it worth trying an IUI cycle with injectables or is it a waste of money and meds? I'm wondering that a lot these days. I know we won't know until we try but I'm hesitant to try.
My DX is stage 2 Endo, LP spotting, and unexplained. DH is perfect. All my bloodwork is great, I'm ovulating. . . really not sure what the problem is.
Thanks, as always, for your advice!
Re: Moving onto IVF question
We;re in the same boat as you- I also have stage 2 endo and unexplained.
We've done 2 clomid IUI's - I think I may do at least 1 injectable IUI before moving onto IVF or adoption.
We are also OOP so it's hard to decide between IVF or adoption. I also don't know if I want to go through IVF.
Same boat - stage 2 endo and everything else is "perfect".
I did one round of injectable IUI before moving on to IVF - it was "nice" to know what the injections would be like before committing to the full-on IVF schedule, but I have very good insurance coverage.
OOP is tough because the medication can cost so much money. And for me, seeing how I responded to the relatively low does of follistim during the IUI cycle didn't play in at all to how I've responded to higher doses for IVF.
Started TTC 05.08
Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
DH: perfect
1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!
1 FET in Aug 2013 = BFP!
We tried 2 clomid IUIs before moving onto IVF. I basically didnt want to waste any more time. Ironically, I'm back to IUI for insurance reasons until DH's kicks in next year. IMO, if you are OOP and your RE is recommending moving straight into IVF, i probably wouldnt waste any money on more IUIs. I guess my thought is that you have a much better success rate with IVF and I'd want to save up money for the IVF rather than spending it on IUIs. With that said, turning to IVF is a huge decision and is more than just a monetary committment. I wouldn't move ahead to IVF until you are certain you are ready....
I'm sorry your'e faced with this decision in the first place and wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do!!
