Minnesota Babies

Question for Park Nicollet OB/GYN users

OK Ladies I need your help....

I have been doing some research on Park Nicollet and when I called them today I asked them "Would the doctor I'd like to see be the same one who would deliver my baby."  Their response I was who's ever on call is the doctor that delivers your baby.

Is that correct?

I'm just a little surprised as I think there are around 45 doctors through out the whole Park Nicollet system.  It seems odd to me that the person your seeing doesn't handle the delivery.  My current OB tries to be present for all of his patients babies and I'm in a group practice so I knew all the doctors before the birth of my child.

TIA

Re: Question for Park Nicollet OB/GYN users

  • If I remember correctly, they make an effort for your OB to be the one to deliver your baby but if they are not available, it would be whoever is on call.  I don't think it would be 1 of 45 throughout the entire Park Nicollet system.  It would be more like 1 of 5 OBs at the Park Nicollet location you choose.

FWIW, I was induced & the doctor that delivered was not my OB.  I rarley saw my OB though, either.  She was always booked when I needed to schedule appts so I ended up seeing the RN more often.

  • Yes, that is correct.  I am not sure how it works with the new Maple Grove hospital though.  I've had two babies at Methodist.  My regular OB was at the hospital on Thursdays, so if I delivered one of those days I would've seen her.  But I didn't, so a different doctor delivered my babies.  As luck would have it, the same doctor delivered both my kids (19 months apart).  I've had a great experience with Park Nicollet/Methodist!

  • Like PP said, it is whomever is on call. And I had heard the number like a 1 and 52 chance when I was choosing an OB. With that said, it solidified my decision to go elsewhere.
  • I was told the same thing. I'm not even sure if I'll end up delivering there yet. I may still end up at Abbott.

  • Yes that is correct. Your doctor may be there doing rounds or they may not be. Most of the time they are not there unless it is a planned c-section. I actually used to work for Park Nicollet so I know. I was one of the lucky ones that my doctor was actually there for the birth of my son. I will tell you that all of the Ob doctors are very nice and so are the nurses at methodist. Once your LO is out you wont even care that it was your doctor or someone on call.

  • That is correct, but it's whomever is on call for your clinic.

I went to Shakopee and there were 5 doctors total, one of those 5 delivers you on the evenings and weekends. Weekdays (normal business hours) your doctor does.

  • Thanks Ladies for all the help and information Smile I am on the fence but your answers really helped.
  • Yep, I wondered the same thing when I was prego with my first DD. I delivered at Methodist hospital. However, my water broke early and unfortunately my OB Dr was not on call that night so a different Dr delivered me, she was amazing though. The next day my OB Dr came to visit when she sharted her rounds. Its really confusing and kinda sucks but I guess some hospitals are so busy and don't have enough Drs its hard to time it all.... i'm not sure?
