Diaper bags?

For those of you who already have yours picked out, or are second time moms, what did you look for in a diaper bag?  I love oversized purses and they mostly become a catch-all, but I'd like to keep my diaper bag a little more organized if I can.  Pockets on inside AND outside? Large middle or more compartments?  I'm young so I want to keep it stylish, but we don't have a ton of $$$ to be spending on one.  Any advise would be awesome, I keep searching online and there are SO MANY.

Re: Diaper bags?

  • i am a first timer, so I really didn't know what I was looking for, but I got mine at a Coach outlet. Its really cute, looks like a big purse, but has tons of pockets and its actually a diaper bag. It was important for me that it still be cute but functional. It looks good to me! And its definitely cute. :)

  • If you have a coach outlet---see if there are coupons for their diaper bag.  I got one (which I never even wanted--but was such a steal)--normally $398 for $130 b/c it was marked down plus 30% off.  Awesome deal.  That has tons of pockets and is stylish.

Honestly--my fave bag was the similac one I got from the hospital--it's plain black and looks like a purse.  Has pockets on the outside for bottles and then roomy on the inside.  Perfect for "shorter" outtings.

What you'll need in it is:  diapers, wipes, burp clothes, cover for breastfeeding if you are going to nurse in public, area for bottles, area for pacifiers, area for your wallet and keys/phone, little toys like those fake keys (won't need them right away though).

  • I got the Skip Hop City Chic when DD was born and love it- lots of pockets to stay organized, detachable clutch for me to use as a purse, etc.

As DD got older, I downsized to a JuJuBe BeTween. It's okay- certainly not amazing in my opinion.?

My SIL has the Skip Hop Studio Tote and she really likes it. I've considered getting one as well because hers is so cute.

  • I have the skip hop: https://www.skiphop.com/product/20000.html

I like it b/c it has clips for over the stroller and has plenty of internal and external pockets.

  • I got mine from the coach outlet as well.  I had my eye on them forever.  When I finally got a positive test it was the first thing I bought.  Luckily they had a sale going on plus additional 50% when I went to get it so I got really lucky.  When I found out the gender I went back and got a scarf and also one of their cosmetic bags.  (their make up bags have pockets inside too so I got it to carry nail clippers, pacifers etc in as well.  They do have lots of pockets and when I am not in need of a diaper bag any longer I can also use it as a regular tote bag or breif case.  Big Smile
  • I went through 4 or 5 bags before I found one that I loved with DD.  I bought a Bumble Bag off of Mamabargains and LOVED it!  We still use it for her when she goes on overnight trips to the grandparents.  This time I decided to stick with the Bumble Bag and bought the Honey Queen Bee.  It came in last week and it is amazing!!

We hated Pottery Barn Kids Ultimate, our LL Bean bag, the PBK backpack, and one that we bought at TRU.

  • I'm about to have two under two, so I'm looking to upsize a little. I would suggest one that you can keep your purse items in, in a sepperate compartment, I hate carrying around a diaper bag and a purse. I'd like to keep it under $50, but that might not happen:). Here are links to diaper bags I'm considering...

  • With our DS (who is now 2) we purchased the Pottery Barn sling/backpack diaper bag in black. It has tons of pockets inside and is super easy to spot clean outside. This is coming from the mother of a super puker. Not sure if they still sell them in the stores. I don't see them online.

I should mention that the main reason we have a sling backpack is b/c my DH refuses to carry a normal diaper "bag" if he is alone with DS. Can't blame him. A backpack is much more manly than a tote bag.

that's what sold me----using it as a work bag--in which I might start doing since I've downsized to a little backpack thing now.  (for now at least)

What's nice is there's enough pockets where one of the large pockets could be your "purse"--with a place to hold the wallet, phone, makeup, etc.  You definitely don't want a purse and diaper bag----no way--too much to manage.

  • I'm on my 6th diaper bag and finally found one that I love.  It's JJ Cole system bag and I got it at BRU.

The one thing I learned that was a must have is a bag with stroller straps.  It makes it so much easier and convenient to get things out or put things in the bag plus you don't have to lug around a heavy bag on your shoulder or your back or squeeze it in the stroller basket which will leave you hardly any room for anything else.

Other things that I liked was a large inside space plus a few smaller pockets for diapers and other smaller things.  One or two pockets on the outside for bottles/sippies and a large changing pad.

I know everyone wants a cute/fashionable diaper bag but make sure you get one that is functional.  I too wanted the cute diaper bag in the beginning but I ended up hating them all because they were not very fuctional and were a complete PITA.

  • I just ordered the skip hop studio tote in pewter dot bc it's stylish and has 14 pockets! If I can't be organized with 14 pockets then I'm a mess. One of my friends liked it so much she said I should order it in black as well.
