My LO came 5 wks early and was in the NICU for 2 wks and sent home w/a heart monitor for apnea/bradycardia. She's been home now 5 wks and the episodes have slowed down considerably where we've felt comfortable taking he off the monitor for a good portion of the day except when she's asleep.
If anyone has a monitor, what has your experience been and how long did you have it for?
Re: Whose gone home w/a heart monitor?
DD was born 7 weeks early and came home on the monitor. For the first week or so we had her on it all the time and then little by little we would take it off for long periods of time except for sleep. Basically, when we felt pretty comfortable with things we just sort of stopped using it. Watch your LO, not the monitor when it alarms.
I bet in a week or so you will be free of it. One day I looked at it and thought to myself, "I need to return that thing... we don't even use it."
We had ours for 2 months. My DD came home on oxygen, and as we weaned her oxygen it would be helpful.... (she'd have more A;s and B's if she wasn't tolerating the weaning...)
Like the others .... I started feeling comfortable having it on only at night/or when she was sleeping.... I called the doctor to ASK them to d/c it.... we felt comfortable/little to no spells/just didn't need it anymore.....
How did everyone cope after you didn't have the monitor? I'm so worried when it comes to the evening time, we bought the AngelCare monitor but right now she's elevated to help with the reflux, so this isn't going to work until we overcome that too.
She's doing so well, hardly any episodes now and the entire time we've had her on the monitor she's corrected herself with only one time that I needed to stimulate her.
