  • Just ask for vegetarian, or only cooked items.  Good luck!

  • Um, miso soup and edamame?  That is a tough one :(  I'd probably eat something before, and say I'm not hungry.
  • Personally, I would eat whatever I felt like - I might limit the tuna but I'm not a huge tuna fan anyway.  If you're worried, limit yourself to cooked sushi.  Personally I believe in everything in moderation as long as the place is reputable.

  • Sushi is sooooooooo tough because it is such a "group" eating event -  I dont envy you!  I didnt really look at the menu, but you could always go with Miso soup and then the California roll (assuming it is made with imitation crab meat, like most sushi places) and also check to see if they have any "vegetarian" rolls, as some actually do!  However, I am more of an "in moderation" girl than a "put this on the exclusively no list",  so I would eat a couple of pieces but stick mainly to soup and maybe edamame!

  • miso soup, anything tempura, vegetarian options

eat a lot before you go so that you aren't starving and dying to eat Smile

  • Tempora rolls are cooked and super tasty!
  • according to their menu, the only things that are on the menu that isn't raw fish is the avocado and asparagus rolls. which is super odd for a japanese restaurant; they don't even have tempura anywhere on the menu. i was going to say tempura rolls, but they don't have any!
  • You can eat the cooked rolls. Everywhere I've gone always has at least some. California rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, and eel are all cooked. On that menu, looks like there's a snow crab roll, which would be yummy.

  • okay you can do this! your two rules are no tuna and nothing raw, so eat anything tempura style, and lots of crab, shrimp and eel (all of which HAS to be cooked to be served to anyone) .... or, send me in your place, I'd love to go despite our limitations :) have fun!

  • You can get the edamame, asparagus rolls, avacado rolls, there is probably a veggie roll, also the tempura's are cooked usually, so that should be ok. Good luck!!
  • Anything with shrimp, eel, or crab, and anything vegetarian.  At a client dinner, it's unlikely that you'll be the only "unadventurous" one.  You can always ask what's cooked, and you won't look pregnant, you'll just look like a sushi novice, which isn't uncommon at all.

  • I'm also in the "moderation" club.  I'd probably stay away from tuna but I think a smoked salmon roll (a la the Philly roll) would be safe.  Also go for things that are tempura.  They're tasty and cooked.  I also saw a mountain yam roll on their menu that sounds tasty.

This.  Shrimp and crab is always cooked.

  • If you like Shrimp, you could get a shrimp tempura roll. There are a ton of rolls that are cooked, so you should be fine.
  • I still eat sushi! I love it. As long as it's cooked you'll be ok! the house soup is always a good choice. You can have california roll, a tempura roll. The rolls are safe ect. Stay away from raw anything!!! I have a little seared tuna the other day, but I eat it all the time (before pregnancy)
  • I ditto the PP who said eat whatever you want.  Personally, I'd be much much much more worried that the waiter didn't wash his hands after using the bathroom than getting something from the fish

The occasional piece of tuna is good for you!  (Here's some stats on mercury if you're really going to worry:  https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/fishmercury.htm and

  • That menu looks pretty unfriendly to pregnant ladies - no shrimp tempura and no california roll? Not cool. I'd say to act like a sushi wimp and tell the waitress you don't want to eat anything raw, and ask what rolls they suggest.

  • I say eat before you get there and then get a couple of veggie rolls and a bowl of miso soup.

  • Thanks Ladies! :)
  • PP have all had great ideas but if you can go a couple mins early and talk to a waitress her recommendations on cooked stuff .  If you tell her your pregnate (and to keep it quiet) she may be able to help you pick better options.  Our sushi place has a paper menu that you turn in so maybe have her mark them down before and make it known these rolls are especially for YOU :)

  • Things that seem ok:

edamame, miso soup and Japanese mushrooms

The scallops makimano roll (although that thing is EXPENSIVE) is probably fine, I believe the scallops are cooked but you may want to ask.

The asparagus roll or enoki mushroom roll.

You could always just say you're a vegetarian and don't eat fish. :)  Otherwise, definitely just tell everyone you're not into uncooked fish.  I don't think anyone should suspect anything unless they've seen you eat sushi before.

  • I don't think a lot of the pp looked at that menu--where is the tempura??  Crazy.  I can't imagine the restaurant doesn't have "secret" menu items that you can request because otherwise that is the least friendly sushi menu I have ever seen!  Good luck.
