Detroit Babies

What would you do?

My OB has a few offices they are on call with ....and I will have to drive about 45 min to an hour away to meet the rest of the docs.....so would you drive out there in the winter with snowy weather or towards the end when in third trimester when I will be huge and I hear uncomfortable but the weather will probably be nicer out .......I am due in May.

Thanks!

Re: What would you do?

  • No way!  I would schedule my appointments at at times when the doctors are in the closest office to me (if that were an option) or I would find a new OB practice.

  • I drive a bit for my ob office (about 45 minutes).  I had my baby in March and I did not mind the drive.  I had the same worries as you.  I even had gestational diabetes and had to go to the office 2 times a week starting at about week 30 or so-I did not mind. I was comfortable with my OB office and did not want to change offices.
  • I ended up being delivered by a dr I had never met because I was seeing the midwives in the practice and things got complicated. I honestly could have given 2 sh!ts about who was between my legs at the point as long as they were going to help get the baby out. Lol. The dr. only comes in at the very end anyways, so most of the time it's the nurses who you interact with and you're not going to meet all of them before you go in.

That's the long way of saying that I would most definitely not drive all around while pregnant in the snow to meet other doctors, because I don't think it really matters. I totally LOVED my midwife and would have driven to other offices to meet with her for my check ups, but when it came down to the delivery it didn't really matter.

  • Good advice...I really love my practice a lot so there is no way I will switch ....and I heard the other docs are great too ....so I guess it won't hurt if I don't meet them .....thanks ladies you are awesome as always!

  • I did not do a rotation with the other doctors and with both of my children the on call doctor was not my OB.  They are there for such a short time between your legs, you really could care less who is catching that baby.  You just want it out.Smile
  • same for me..my doc couldnt be there so an associate who I had met once before delivered me- and You really could care less who's delivering as you just want to push the baby out and be pain free- LOL
  • I agree with everyone else.  With my first son, I had only met the doctor maybe twice at the beginning of my pregnancy.  They really aren't around too much- you deal mainly with the nurses.  Most of your interaction with the doctor is during your prenatal visits, so I say stick with the practice you normally go to

  • I agree with everyone else.  The actual dr isn't the person who really takes care of you when deliver.  If I ended needing another c/s this time, my dr won't be the one preforming it and I am ok with it.
