Having 2 of the same gender is making holiday giving for Mathis tough. We already have so much and I want to be creative with his gifts but am at a loss. I thought maybe a poll might get the shopping juices flowing!
What are you planning on getting your kids for the holidays?
Re: Early holiday poll: what are you getting your kids?
My mom bought G this. It was supposed to be our big gift to him, but my mom asked if she could get it for him.
We're getting him a play kitchen and a work bench because we're insane and apparently like tiny pieces and toys laying around everywhere.
I think we're also going to get him a new nap mat for school, although that might turn into a birthday gift.
Other than that I have no idea what he's getting.
No clue so thank you for posting! She'll be 9 months old so I'm thinking we'll get some of the bigger toys for her. She already has so much. I want to get her a wagon but might wait to get that for her first birthday.
We might be lame and put most of her birthday money is her account. I know the grandparents will go crazy with gifts. We'll likely get her 2 gifts to open for pictures sake...eh, I don't want to be lame. Who am I kidding. We'll get her tons of toys to continue taking over our house!!!
DS is obsessed with cars, trucks, tractors, etc. so we got him the Fisher Price Car Tower (Wheelies), some small chuck the trucks with a carrying case and some balls. I will probably pick up a few things for his stocking but I'm pretty much done with him since he's still pretty small and I know he'll get things from other people. Good luck!
I'm considering something like this since we have Christmas and his birthday so close together. I know one of his aunts already got him a Cozy Coupe as a combo birthday-Christmas gift. The ILS got him a big truck and a toy lawnmower (and I'm sure a 1000 other things). We're probably going to get him a plastic climber/slide thing for the backyard. Other than that I don't know yet. Maybe a water table, maybe a smaller ride-on toy that can stay inside, maybe a rody pony because I think they're cute. We already have a wagon and a play workbench (hand-me-down and garage sale). I know I'm not helping you at all V.
We're doing zoo for Christmas and the Children's Museum for his birthday in January. That way they'll renew for an occasion we buy gifts for anyway every year. By the time he's 10 he's going to know at least one gift he's getting for Christmas and his birthday
We got these memberships for birthday and Christmas from family. Best renewing gift for each holiday.
Marion is getting an Ikea hack play kitchen with felt food (if mama gets off her butt and gets busy.)
Eliza will just get board books.
j+k+m+e | running with needles
We're getting them some sort of purple/pink sparkly boom box if I can find one, plus some CDs. They love dancing and pretending to sing to music.
Elizabeth is getting a bitty baby and crib from the AG catalog. Sarah's getting the Julie doll w/bedroom. Those are their big gifts.
I want to find really pretty fancy nightgowns for them also.
A wooden table and train set This one to be exact https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3931028
Also a personal sized kid's trampoline w/handle that he can use inside
Not sure what else, probably a few small items here and there.
the day we moved in my mom found a dollhouse at a garage sale, the fancy wood kind with all the tiny furniture including tiny art for the walls. Santa is giving her that (he got a steal at $60!)
MIL is getting her one of those play tents for inside, the kind with the tunnel.
I think we may do a plasma car for her birthday. other then that it will be all small gifts, not sure what yet.
aprilprincess, that is so funny she is getting a play tent - I just posted over on TN about requesting recommendations.
For those of you with little ones interested in that (especially PAGAS if she comes in), there is a super cute Ladybug one that seems too young for Maddie and also an Eric Carle play tent. I wish we would have bought that for Maddie last year and her big Ford truck this year because she is only just now beginning to really enjoy it.
So we are doing a play tent/castle for her "big" gift from santa. I put "big" in quotes because the ones I'm looking aren't expensive but they take up a lot of room and I like santa to give a big unwrapped gift - was my favorite thing as kid.
I also considered a vanity set because she loves playing dressup so much. But she has no wall space in her bedroom. She does, however, have room if I take her changing table out of her closet so that might get shipped for storage at grandma's in Nacogdoches and I might put up this princess rack she can put her dress up clothes on in there along with a little table. She can sit under her hanging clothes - the bar is way above her head.
But this year the focus will really be books and a few more dress up things, as well as dress up clothes for her fancy nancy doll. She has so much in terms of toys but can never really have enough books.
I thought about a play kitchen but based on feedback from everyone here she might be too old for it. (she had one before but it is too small for her now - it was for 2 yr olds). So I put a play dough kitchen oven on her wish list so when she can't actually do stuff with my kitchen stuff she can play with that. And I'm going to organize a "cabinet" of stuff she can use on my own kitchen counters with a stool as if she was really cooking. Her playdough thing can go in that cabinet and she can pretend it is her stove when she needs one.
And since her birthday and Christmas are so close together, I am going to put some $20 gift cards in boxes on her birthday so she can open them and I'll tell her that she can use one every two months during the year or save them for a big toy purchase. That way if some must-have comes out it's already paid for.
She might get some princess barbies though.
Finally, I looked at the big princess-and-me dolls. but they seem to be targeted a little older than her age range: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4109121 Since next year is our big Disney Trip I think I might load her up with one of those next year and outfits for it.

We're in the same boat. How many Legos, for instance, can one family have?
Sean likes to make things work a lot more than Lucas. So, we'll get him things along those lines.
That Fisher Price singing thing makes Sean laugh, so he'll get that. He is also obsessed with cats in a way no. 1 never was - there is this purring cat toy that is another option. He goes nuts for it at the store.
Art supplies are on Lucas's list.
Have you tried taking Mathis to the toy store alone and see what happens?
DS1 is getting a bike from Santa. His birthday is so close to Christmas that I'm not sure how we are dividing things yet. He wants "Tidmouth Shed", so we got the roundhouse for the Thomas wooden railway. I also have stashed away a couple of games - Think Fun Zingo, and Rush Hour Jr. He also has a couple of random Thomas trains, Super Why toys, and a pillow pet on his list that he will probably get from aunts and uncles. I have several books stashed away and might get a couple more. I would love for him to get some tinker toys or another building type toy other than the wood blocks and legos we have, but I'm not sure about choke hazards for DS2.
DS2 is getting an Anywhere Chair for his first birthday. I have some new books stashed away for him. I have thought that the Radio Flyer Walker Wagon or the Cozy Coupe might be neat for him, but those are both big/bulky, so we'll see. I think he will get his own set of alphabet wooden blocks or the haba fantasy blocks from my grandparents. I want him to get the Melissa & Doug knob puzzle that looks like a house with shapes in it. I saw a tool set from iPlay that looks kind of neat. The Green Toys boat looks cute and like something they could each get, possibly. The Yookidoo flow n fill spout looks like fun for the tub.
They are a little spoiled this year, as we are putting in a swingset in the back for their birthdays, too. Sigh.
Yeah, he likes balls and dinosaurs. we already have every plastic dinosaur known to man. i did buy him 3 different balls for his stocking.
For the big gifts, we're getting Hannah a kick scooter, and Sam a gigantic Lego kit.
Other than that, I have no idea.
We're getting her a few smaller things- books, Minnie Mouse doll, Sleeping Beauty plush doll, princess dress-up clothes and slippers, shopping cart and play food.
I think the grandparents will get her a wagon and an art desk.
