Does your camera take FAST pictures?

We have a Cannon camera and it literally take 3-5 seconds from clicking the button to actually taking the pictures which wasn't too bad when DD was a baby but now she's running away and it's annoying. Can you recommend your extremely fast cameras please?

  • Do you have a DSLR?  If so, what settings are you using?

  • our canon is super fast when we put it on the continuous setting - have you tried that?  i will say that all my awesome shots are outside with natural lighting - lighting is big for speed!

Ha! You're speaking greek....I'm technology challenged but DH isn't and he can't even find a setting to make it work. The camera is maybe a year old and was around $200 so nothing amazing. We tried a "rapid fire" setting and it took a bunch of pictures in a row but the focus wasn't great and they were kind of dark. I usually keep it on auto-focus and that's all I know. Sorry!

  • If you're just wanting something entry level that you can adjust settings on, I would suggest getting a Canon Rebel XS ($499 with kit lens).  That'll get you where you can adjust exposure, shutter speed, etc.

I know nothing about good point and shoots, though.

You can also ask on the photography board.

  • I had to buy a DSLR because out Canon P&S was just too slow. I bought a Canon Rebel XSI

  • A DSLR would be good for you.  I have a Canon Rebel and can change the shutter speed (how fast it takes pictures).

I just wanted to add my Canon Rebel is refurbished.  You can save $100 going that route.

  • Most of your "fast" cameras are going to be DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflect).  Unfortuantly, you're going to have to spend some $$$$ to get a camera the you are referring to.  I have a Nikon D90, with a couple lens and I LOVE it.  So much I am a photographer, haha.  I prefer Nikon over Canon, it's just a personal preferrence.  Just do little research, go to Best Buy or a local camera place and talk with them on what is best for what you want to do.  The body of the camera is the "cheap" part.  The different lens are what is going to cost you $$$$.

  • I have the Xsi and it takes relatively fast pics but I also shoot on manual (I adjust the settings). I've been using a relative's 50D and it is a ton faster than my Xsi. I don't know what I'll do when I have to give it back :) But it's a heavy camera and is a lot to tote around to events.. I'm not sure about a fast P&S...

  • I really like my new point-and-shoot, the Panasonic Lumix LX5. It's pricey, but I bought it for speed and quality, and it's much faster and sharper than my old Canon Powershot. To get instantaneous shots, you really need a DSLR, but for point-and-shoot moments, I love having the Lumix.
  • Thanks ladies, now I just need a good deal to convince my DH!
