I don't know if you all remember but last week I asked if I should try to miscarry naturally or have a D&C. I had an ultrasound scheduled for today and was going to make a decision after they confirmed the viability of the pregnancy.
Whoever it was that wrote that I probably wouldn't make it through the weekend was exactly right. I started to miscarry on Friday during a very important meeting and it was hellacious. Luckily I made it out of the meeting and made it home. I tried the rest of the day Friday and Saturday to do it on my own, but by 11:00am Saturday, I'd felt like I had been going through labor and had to go to the ER because I was in so much pain. My OB met me there and did the D&C and I was fine immediately afterwords.
I knew the process wasn't supposed to be a cakewalk, and I know it's different for everyone, but that was a true nightmare. I think I was in so much pain because my cervix was closed and trying really hard to open and get the baby out.
Did you guys experience this much pain when miscarrying?
Re: f/u to Miscarry naturally or D&C
I'm so sorry for your loss.
My pain was more like *really* bad cramps. The cramps started fairly lightly, so I was able to head them off with tylenol (I was surprised at how well it did, actually). My doc said I could take something stronger, but I was on a work trip and hadn't brought anything else with me. The worst came about a day later and I had to sit down through some of the cramps, they were really bad, but as soon as I passed the baby, they went away almost immediately.
We'll always remember our angel baby: BFP 9/24/10, M/C 10/23/10 8w4d
So sorry you had to go through that. Hope you are feeling much better soon. I too had a d&c scheduled, but didn't make it to the d&c.
I was pregnant with twins and at 8 weeks 2 days we determined their hearts had stopped. My doctor wanted me to try and miscarry naturally. After 10 days of waiting with no movement at all, we scheduled a d&c for later in the week.
Unfortunately I had to go out of town for a couple of days before she could get me in. And of course I started bleeding heavily and passing clots on the airplane flight back home. I thought that was bad, but the next two nights were worse than I ever could have imagined.
My doctor said the pain would be like my worst period ever. For me it was WAY worse than that. It was seriously like getting punched in the stomach over and over for four hours straight. Two nights in a row. The pain meds she prescribed didn't come close to touching the pain. It was horrible. And she had not warned me at all that the intense pain could be stretched out over days like that. If this ever happens to me again I will schedule a d&c immediately. I can not go through that pain again.
Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
Wow, this post is dead on. I had a D&C scheduled for this afternoon. Found out last Thursday there was no heartbeat for the twins. After talking with the doctor, we decided to give it the weekend and then do the D&C this afternoon.
For me, the cramps weren't so bad, it was the bleeding. After several hours it wouldn't let up, and I was lightheaded and almost passed out on my husband.
I ended up in the ER and my doctor came in to do the D&C on a Sunday afternoon. I am sore today, but so much more relieved that it's all taken care of.
Best of Luck to everyone.
Last Tuesday I experienced a natural miscarriage, and I can tell you the pain I experienced was much stronger than cramps. Although I have never been in labor, the cramping was about every 3 minutes and was painful. After an hour of dealing with the pain, I had to take something stronger than Aleeve. I used the heating pad all night and honestly, the bleeding wasn't as bad as I imagined. (sorry if TMI) I passed a few clots, but have never seen the sac that most people mention. Currently my bleeding has slowed down, but is not totally gone.
I am so sorry for your loss - the emotional pain is far worse than the physical. Thoughts and prayers to you.
