If you're FB friends with me, you probably already saw this but I had to post it over here too because it's so worth everyone reading.
My fave line is definitely "I am not worried that your son will grow up to be an actual ninja so back off." Very good perspective offered there...
Re: Awesome blog post!
Good post.
My fav Madonna song...
"But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think being a girl is degrading, but secretly, you'd love to know what its like"
So Tasty, So Yummy
I can't claim hormones and I'm in tears too. I think it's because I'm so mad that these attitudes still exist.
amen.
A friend of mine wouldn't let her 3 year old son have a Dora themed birthday party and made him do Diego instead (even though he had no love of Diego). It made me so sad that even at 3 she felt he needed to conform. Hopefully I'll have the strength to buy O. the purple tights when the day comes (and somehow I think it probably will!).

So Tasty, So Yummy
I think this was a great article. I loved what it said and it really struck a cord that we, as mothers, owe it to our children to teach them the RIGHT way to behave. To NOT be judgmental and to let kids be kids. To be kind to each other.
That said... I think that her son, and her to a degree, had to know what was going to happen. As a mother I would want to shield my son from that kind of pain. Right or wrong for what it is... and if Joe wants to dress up as Evita... I will let him. But, I will also let him know what he's in store for.
Does that make sense?
This. People suck. The mom carried herself much better than I would have.
Wow. Just... oh my. I am completely embarassed that the people making fun of her son were (supposedly) Christian women. I mean... ridiculous. He was dressed up. For Halloween. I just don't get how that is sinful. I don't get how that is wrong.
Furthermore, even if they had done something wrong... they should be ashamed of themselves. To chide anyone, especially a child, is definitely not what we are supposed to do as Christians.
And sadly... it's not just boys dressing as girls. Mia was an astronaut this year for Halloween. Which, apparently is only a "boy" costume, according to everyone but us. And the costume manufactorers. People mostly ignored her in favor of Micah who was a cheerleader. They would say, "oh, that's... nice. You are so... smart." Then gush and fall all over themselves saying how cute Micah was. But dang it, Mia was the cutest little astronaut I've seen.
Several people even said, "I thought that was a BOY'S costume." I just said, "Yes, I did find it in the boy's section, but there are many female astronauts and Mia loves space... plus, she's pretty cute in it." Mia, thankfully, never caught on, but just kept yelling "3-2-1 BLASTOFF!" throughout the night because she was so, so excited to be an astronaut.
This makes me so sad. I'm glad Mia didn't know what people were saying. I'm certain Mia was the CUTEST astronaut ever!
